CORN MARKET IS A LEADER Activity of the Yellow Cereal (lives Renewed Strength to Other drains mid Keeps Price Coins; Up, OMAHA, Oct. 29, 1913. The eyes of the specuatlve world are now on the growing wheat crop of Argen tina. While the public cable received yes terday claimed there were sections of the southern hemisphere wheat belt that need rain, a private cable later conveyed Uie news that the prospects there are gener ally good. The latter news was well re ceived In Liverpool and that market re fused to follow the sharp upturns made In Chicago. There are a few In the Chicago trade who are holding moderate sized quantities of wheat It must be remembered that It will be some little Urns before the wheat In that country can be harvested, and there are man)' possibilities of losses by pests, storms or floods. It will be remembered that tho bull crowd In wheat of a few years ago, and. In fact, up to and including last year, held on to their wheat In the Chicago market In the hope that something would happen to the Argentina crop; that the prospects would be changed and that values In all markets of the world would be enhanced In consequence. These bulls were disappointed, as there was never a semblance of deterioration In the promise, and big crops were raised. The wheat futures held at Chicago are In the hands of some of the strongest houses In the trade. It Is said that a. coterie of bulla In the east, possibly the. same who suffered heavy losses on the bull side last year, are oealn giving their attention to wheat, and they havo been quietly accumulating a line through two of the larger houses In Chicago. Cash wheat was 11Ho higher. The corn market was the leader on tho Board of Trade yesterday, and It gave strength to wheat and oatn. Had not corn advanced and the feeling rule strong, the probabilities aro that the other grains would have sold much lower. A decided change waa noticed In the weather In the corn belt, which waa unfavorable for Uie curing of the new crop and the movement of the old. Cash corn waa c to lo higher. Soma elevator concerns were again on the selling aide of oau yesterday and prices showed net losses of Uo to Ue for the day. Cash oats were e higher. S7057HC CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS Features of the TradlnK and Closlnv Prices on Board of Trade. .CHICAGO, Oct. 29. Nervousness over tho crop outlook for India and Argentina caused a material advance In the wheat market today The wlndup, however, was weak at a rise of StMio net. Corn fin ished H?Ho to U-Ho higher than yoa terday, Oatn varying from a shade off to an equal gain and provisions down 3V4 to S6c First strength In wheat came from an unexpected bulge at Liverpool, which waa explained by statements that dis tress dun to the food failure In the United Provlncee of India, had become so aoute the British government was al ready contributing financial relief. Ar gentina dispatches rollowed-Aelllng of a new danger to the crop, heads drying up without filling. Bullish sentiment regarding1 wheat re ceived fresh Impetus when the day's primary receipts Were shown to be only a third of the total a year ago. Buying of CanadlarK wheat for Buffalo millers exercised a N restraining Influence, but this more than waa offset later by strength at Winnipeg alleged to be the result of purchasing orders received there from Buenos Ayr-en. Profit taking on a large scale gaVo the market a weak tone nt the lBt. Rough weather put firmness In the corn market. On the other hand, rumors were current that a big long line of corn waa held here for cnarlea u. uaies. Despite denial of the truth of the re tmrta. the effect on the market was quite noticeable, as tending to prevent a more deciaea aavance. iimuihw w speculative longs held oats down. Ele vator concerns led the buying. Holders of provisions unloaded to such an extent that tho market became, semi-innraii-Ki riM- the dose. The flurry was attributed to radically bearish Maws expressed In print by a well known western pacner. Artlclel Close. High. Low .1 Close. Tesy. i 1 I 1 May.90HtJ 1HIWwH!
