AEE NOT 8ELLIN0 MUCH CORN Even In Face of Few Offerings Longs Are tint Able to Hold Up Trices, Which Brenk Before Close of the Day. Jl OMAHA. Oct 3, 191$ There was a reversat of conditions In the grain markets on the Board ot Trade yesterday, when the strentgh and activity displayed earl)' In the day Is compared with the declining tendency late. The market underwent a bullish movement during the forenoon and It looked as If Prices were to be carried very much higher, as the buying power was un questionably liberal, Every Interest In the trade seemed to be anxious to take on wheat while the selling waa liberal by longs. The market, however, showed an oversold condition a half hour before the close And this resulted In a rush of sell ing orders and a consequent pries break. The situation In whea; was doubtless a a disappointing one to the holders, who were inclined to engineer an upturn on which to get rid ot some of that grain, ir WM said there were selling orders In Chicago from some of the outside mar kets and that the orders worn In th of either undoing & spread, or In the tray of a hedge. The new crop, which Is un der pressure In western Canada, and the heavy world's shipments am both weak ening factors. As a partial offset to this Is the expectation of a decrease In the amount on ocean passage for tho week. Western receipts were 000,000 bushels smaller than for the corresponding week last year, which shows that holders are reruslng to eell at present prices, or the railroads are not furnishing ample cars for the handling of the offerings owing to the congesdon suffered at the jLtr mlnals. Cash wheat was unchanged. The country waa a small seller of cash corn yesterday and the sales for the day for eastern shipments were fair at 200.000 ,n'' ,x!1 th bl? lon un able io hold the prices strong and net wef,w,re "h.own Cash corn was unchanged to Uo lower. ii "LfM,lpu,?t oaU ytrday were considerably smaller than the corre spondins dav a vmp awn .t.. ..... article was stronger In most of the weet- 4 rn ma rlsktss v - . . . to tin hi; W. uncne1 Clearancesr Wheat and flour. 288,000 bu.: corn, p.opo bu.; oats, M.000 bd. CATTLE- Tho recelpta of cattl. as usual on a Saturday, amounted to prao- ttcally no thin r. them tint halnr nrAuirh of anything on sale to make a. malket. For the week the receipts have been very muuoraic snowing a sugm tailing on as compared with last week and a de crease of about 6,000 head as compared Flth the corresponding week & year ago. In spite of the moderate receipts the market under unfavorable advices from other points broke sharply on Monday and Tuesday. Later on In the week as receipts became more liberal and the de mand broadened prices improved, and by the close of the week boat steers were baok to about where they were at the Close of lost week. The sharp break that took place lost week and the pres ent week appears to have been due to a Variety of causes, among which might be montloned a temporary over supply of fresh beef In packers' coolers at big east ern centers. The absence of Kosher buy ers from the market for two weeks owing (o Its being the Jewish holiday season caused leas active demand than would otherwise have been the case. At the same time reported reclpts of fresh meat from Argentina and of beef cattle at Chicago from western Canada still fur ther complicated matters and furnished the packers with an excuse for pounding the market Packers made the roost pf the opportunity, with the result that tho fiiarket broke sharply, as noted above. With the return of Kosher buyers the latter part of tho present week and the Improved demand the market took on a better tone and prices In consequence closed up about steady with the previous week so for aa beet steers were con- CeCowa and heifers broke In sympathy with beef cattle, but they, too, recpveied the latter part of the week, posing steady to 'possibly a shade lower. The sharp break In killers seemed to stop the country demand for tock cattle and feeders, and aa a rtUt the xet on that class ot stock, . whloh broke sharply last week, continued on the down wind grade during the greater part of the nreaent week. Prices are now 15(326o tower Than laTweek's close, which means se3m -ssa m frron?onKt1 Corn-fed steers. The recelpta for tho week amount to some 133.927 head, which shows . aiiina- off of about 10.304 from last week and Is also shcrt of the correspond ing week a year ago hy 6.670 head. The bulk of the suppVy came during the first ihrea days, the week opening out with a very flr run nd Tuesday's supply being tne secona largest tor any one cay tni season. Since Wednesday receipts drop ped off considerably, as there were carcely enough fat offerings to afford anything like a good test ot vatues. reeding iambs predominated on an aays while aced feeder offerlnxs and anything in the line of killers were In rather limited supply most of 4 he week, especially on the closing days. Notwithstanding the abnormally large receipts on Monday and Tuesday roost ot the offerings, both fat and on the feeder order, sold to good advantage. This was largely dne to the excellent facilities for handling the stock at the yards and also to a fairly broad demand that existed on those. days. Fat lambs and sheep held fully steady, and while the best grades of feeders showed little. If any change, the In-between kinds, or .light-weight stuff, had a lower trend. On Wednesday fat stuff, was again eteody, but feeders suffered a little further decline, especially the common kinds.. The light receipts on Thursday and Friday created a bullish feeling In the general trade, the market being brisk, with fat lambs quoUtbly 10t 15c higher and tat ewe? ahd wethers Strong compared with a week ago. The closing prices on the best fedlng Iambs were a little tower, the decline from last week being generally quoted as 10515c The less desirable lambs were uneven sellers and are anywhere from 10Q40c off. Aged feeder offerings varjed little. If any, all the week.
