OMAHA, Oct 17. 191.
The fact developed yesterday that one
big concern at Buenos Ayree, Argentine,
has sold S, 409,000 bushels of corn to man
ufacturers of the United Statee and Can
ada. The manager of the grain and seed
department of this firm, Cart Hlrschler,
was on the Hoard of Trade yeaterday
looking over the corn situation In the
west. This gentleman places the export
abl8. HrP,u 'n that country a around
16,000.000 bushels. Ho says that while
there Is some of the southern hemisphere
corn still in the stocks of the Importing
countries of the old world, these supplies
are not large, and that they will be
dwip upon froni y da. nd tht
additional corn will be wanted there In
the near future. As to the likelihood of
th Importation of Argentine corn Into
Kansas and other states for feeding pur
poses, Mr, Hlrschler said the probabili
ties are that good shipments will be
made, and from the. spirit of his con
versation he is here looking after the
matter. This grain will come In at the
gulf gateway.
There Is an old-fashioned "selling bc"
In the wheat pit yesterday and It was
generally agreed that th grain to come
put was not against the new crop of
the northwest, nor that of western Can
ada, but that It was slmon pure lone
tuff, which was becoming too heavy for
the holders to carry longer without caus
ing considerable Inconvenience and losses
. m ?&er w POMlWe chance
of "nursing" the market 'and holding it
firmly, so that grain might be dumped
to advantage, as nearly every Interest In

Foreign ports were said to be so
glutted that etorago room for wheat had
become exhausted, quotations sharply de
pressed, and Importers chary about mak
ing any purchas whatever at present
Traders here could scarcely get their
bearings this morning before the market
had again broken the low price record
fpr this year's crop. Pessimists mean
while were busy declaring that the
radically bearish action of Liverpool
which bad to a great extent been the
cause of tile latest break here left no
alternative but tor the Canadian crop
to be headed toward the United States.
Profit taking by shorts led- to a couple
of good rallies lu wheat, but Wall street
weakness and bearish, advices regarding
growth conditions In the winter crop
pelt proved a decided offset
Corn suffered from liquidating sales
after prices had rallied on account of
shorts covering because of rainy weather
over tfc entire shipping belt The
weakness was attributed mostly to the
downturn In 'heat and there was some
recovery In tue late dealings. Oats sold
off with other grain, but reacted owing
tp report that Canadian oats here would
not grade nearly as wl as expected.
There were also rumors of the buying
back of Canadian shipments sold in th
packers were credited with supporting
provisions early, but grain weakness
mode the market heavy later. A de
cline at the yards counted also against
the bulls.

HOGS A very fair run showed up thl
morning, about 70 cars, or 4,700 head, be
ing reported In. Kor the- five days th
total lu 30,070 head, nearly 3,0.x) larger
than last week and about W0 heavier
than for the same days of last year.
The market opened out In fair shape
and It looked for a while a though the
(lump In values had been oheoksrf. linth
packers and shippers bought a number of
xlritthrmM AXttu Sfadw of
(butcher and heavyweight hogs early at
' tea,' Possibly a little stronger prices,
fmTal 'UPVA
I made looked to be about a nickel low.r.
- i Sellers held on for the belt part of the
foranooa In an effort to brlnar th market
back to Its early level, but Instead of
strengthening up, values. If anything,
weakened sUll more, and when sellers
finally began to cut loose prices paid wre
generally quoted as 510c lower than yes
terday's average. Some salesmen were of
the opinion that the clos wa even wore
than thl and quoted their sale a a flat
dime lower. During the first round the
trad evidenced a alight degree of activ
ity, but before thla time movement was
very draggy and, as has been the case on
previous days of the week. It was wall
along toward midday before anything
like a clearance wa made. 1
Hulk of the talcs was mode at $7" '
8.00, and tops sold at 88.10, half a load Of
good butchers going to a shipper buyer at
that figure. There was a good demand
for pigs this morning and the few bunches'!
that showed up sold at prices that were I
and some cases a little
