The wheat market was as heavy as lead

Purchases and secure profits there would
have been a far different story told here
relative to the declines. Kvery piece ot

another big Increase In the Visible supply

News Trom the old world favored the

CHICAGO GIIAIX AND PROVISIONS ,
Features of the Trartlnir and Closing
Prices on Hoard of Trade,
CHICAGO, Oct 15. Active campaign
ing on the part ot bear leaders carried
the wheat market today sharply under
the season's previous low price, although
the record for depression had been made
only the day before. The close was
weak at Ho to HQe lower, practically
the bottom figures. Other leading staples
showed declines corn H4Jo. oats 701o
to mc and provisions THOl&o.
Predictions that wheat would go as
low as 73o a bushel because of the tariff
changes formed one of the elements which
Influenced the market A liberal In
crease In the world's available supply
also came into play and there was
fresh evidence that no export demand
was likely at present to relieve the bur
den due to accumulating domestlo stocks.
Big purchases on the. decline brought
wheat prices back about midday to nearly
last night's level, bot the market In the
end collapsed again. The temporary up
turn was due In part to falling off In pri
mary receipts, which were more than
tW.OCO bushels lets than a. year ago.
Corn Wont down grade chiefly as "the
result of a soling drive based on talk
of Argentina Imports betng able to' com
pete with Iowa shipments In Kansas. The
fine weather added to sentiment In
favor of lower prices. At the decline,
though commission house demand over
came considerable of tho loss. Liquidat
ing sales forced oats down worse than
nny of the other cereals. The reason lay
In continued free offerings from Canada.
Lower values for hogs weakened provl
slons. Packers gave the market but little
support

HOQd Today' market Wa nmctlrailv
a repetition of Tuesday's. As was the
can yesterday there was practically no
demand for the light and light mixed
offerings, and even lieavlea broke about
u. uime. uunng the first rounds a few
loads of Prime heavies aolil nt n. ilecllnn
of not more than 5M0c. but' after that
the sales ot weighty offerings looked to
be a flat dims lower. Light hogs wero
very hard to move at any time, it bring
Impossible to even get a bid on some of
them. Buch sales na ,n marie, hv II
o'clock looked to- bo around 16o lower.
me market closed at tho weakest point
ot the day. and the majority of tho
trader aro agreed that prices paid for
light and mixed stuff are 15$20c lower.
It might be mentioned that even the
medium-weight mixed load were very
nard to dispose ot and a good many of
them show as much decline as tha verr
light Stuff.
Utllk of li ei was made at 17.(035.00.
A few head of butcher weight stuff sold
as high as 88.16 but tho best price paid
for a full load was 18.10. A few bunches
of plrs that showed up found values de
cidedly weaker, ana wero rorcea 10 sen
at a decline of fully 250500.
nuppues amounted to aoout ivi oars, or
7,000 head, and this together with the ten
cars held over from yesterday gave pack
ers a uuerai supply to pioa trom. iror
the week the total Is 16.748 head. belnK
slightly heavier than last week, but about
500 head short of the corresponding period
ot laai year.

pared with tho trad earlier In the fort
noon. While tha packet got out tn fair
season and filled some orders at fljrurea
steady to a shade lower than on Monday
they became very Indifferent at a later
hour. In soma cases bidding as much a a
quarter lower and In other refusing to
bid at all. Tha result waa that commis
sion men wero unwilling; to sell at a 25a
decllna, so carried over what was still
unsold for today' trade,
Tha holdover from yesterday with to
day' normal run made another liberal
supply at tho disposal ot buyers this
morning and as all packer buyers vr i
again bearish the bulk of the fat lambs
had to sell on a basts or 16925a lower than
yesterday' general market and the move
ment era! a ward was slow at that
It waa different with fat ewes, as the
supply was moderate, consisting of about
a halt dosen cars and the trade was
active at steady prloe. There were no
fat wether or yearlings ot consequenoo
on,sala.
There was little If any change In tha
best grade ot feeding lamb and suatt
kind were rather scarce). Tho bulk of
the feeding lamb being on the fair to
rood order, sold right along; at prlco
weak tq lOfflSo off. Feeding lamb, from
culls to the very beet kind are quotable
anywhere from 85.25 to 85.40, quality and.
weight fixing the price. FeedintT year
lings wero little It any lower and old,
thin ewe wero hard to dispose at .
