20 ffffBBEEt OMAHA, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1D13. tO SHIP PIGS TO FEEDERS Flood of Porkers at South .Omaha Yards Will Be rattened. COME IN FEOM DRY DISTRICT Too Small for Kllllnir nnd HoTrni- 4 ntrnt Alda Thrlr Illaposal .In Conntlra Where Corn la I'trntlfnl. It la expected that thousand of feeder hog will within the next few months be shipped put of South Omaha to the parts of the state where the corn crop Is Rood Arrangements have been made between the Nebraska live stock and sanltarv commleilon and the bureau of ftnlmal Industrr of South Omaha to allow these hoes to be shipped out oT the yards to the localities where the farmers will buy them to fatten. They have been Ihlpped In from the Kouth I'latto country, where the corn crop Is so short that the farmer could not finish them for mar ket. They aro not In such shape a to & doslred for killing by the packers. The rules with regard to shipping hogs Cit of Soutli Omaha have been very strict. Mi account of the fear of spreading disease. It 1ms always been tho rule that hogs once shipped Into the yards must be kilted at tho packing houses here, or, It shipped out, must be billed to packer elsewhere. The arrangements now made In this emergency Is to get the small, unfinished hogs out to other sections of tin state for feeders. However, before Mpplng they aro to bo vaccinated and kept In the yards the required twenty one days before shipping them out. This, It is believed, will forestall any possi bility that they might carry any disease In other localities of the state. Too Knmll for Kllllnir. Vor months these small hogs have been ihlpped Into the stock yards at South Omaha. The packers bought many very mall ones, but when there came' from the drouth-stricken districts carloads of mere pigs weighing not more than fifteen or twenty pounds apiece, the packer hud til draw the line. They had no use for such stock. Many of these sold for It and less apiece to persons In Omaha and South Omaha, who built llttlo pens In their back yards to raise n nig or two on s&rbnge'and weeds of the back yards. Borne of these little fellows are thriving nicely now and will make excellent killer tt Christmas time. In the northern part of tho state, where the corn crop ran from twenty-five to fifty bushels per acre, many of the farmers are said to be anxious for the day when the bars of restriction will be let down, so that they can get some of these fine little porkers out of tho South Omahn yards. Some of these farmer have hog enough for their supply of corn. Other have not. Still other lost all the hogs they had with the cholera, so that when the opportunity is pre sented to get a bunch of young stuff that has been vaccinated Under govern Stent supervision, they will Jump at tho ihance to lay In a stock: for winter feeding. Sdldiers Must Have ' i Discharge Papers The land departments of the r inroads that operate in the vicinity of the North Malta foitst reserve and tho Fort Nio brara, military reservation, have been no tified by the secrctry of tho 'interior that n case where former soldier and sailors J41re to register for a chance in the - iifml lottery, it wtil not be necessary to send copies of discharge paper with the application sent with the power of at torney. All that will be required will be an affidavit of service. llomeKeepiner Wbnten ffeea Health nnd Stwnstil.
