was in the neighborhood and paid $15 tor
his visit when two negro tnen hit him on
the head with a club.

which Is the day set by the State Anti
Saloon league to initiate its campaign In
which It hopes will eliminate hundreds of
saloons In the state, Including the road
houses, in Douglas county. Nearly sixty
churches have already agreed to conduct
anti-saloon programs Sunday. The league
Is placing speakers In every one ot tho
list, or Is arranging with the regular pasr
tor to give a talk on the subject, outlnlng
the program of the league and telling, ot
tho progress made.
Petitions now being prepared will be In
tha churches Sunday to be signed. Thus
the league hopes to get a good line ot
signatures to the initiative petition )t
will circulate In tho hope of bringing be
fore the people at the 19H election the
question of eliminating- saloons" within
two miles ot state Institutions, ellmU
natlng all saloons except one to every
600 inhabitants In any town In the state
and taking away from the Douglas
