GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET Bearish Enthusiasm Renewed, by Much Needed Rains. PRICES GO A LITTLE LOWER Influence Uxcrted firings the Yellow Cereal Down from One-tlnnrter to One-Hnlf Cent Lower Level. OMAHA, Sept 10, 1913. There were some rains In the southwest yesterday, principally in Kansas and Ok lahoma, where they havo no corn left, and these caused a renewal of bearish enthusiasm on the part of a coterlo of Chicago operators who have been.bcarlsh In spite of tho recent steady advances. This feeling was Intensified to somo ex tent by fairly liberal receipts and also some scattered liquidation on the part of holders, who weio a little timid about the possibilities of tho gov ernment figures not bearing, out the re ported damage to tho crop. The loss for the day was only about &c. Cash com was HS?Hc lower. Wheat moved within exceedingly nar row limits, but ruled generally eatjler, with the Chicago professionals tho prin cipal sellers, the firm conviction seeming to exist, owing to the dullness In the cash demand, that the government crop fig ures would prove a bearish factor. North west market were steady yesterday. The southwestern markets were dull but firm for options, but the cash markets were steady to fractionally lower. The rains In Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa caused great relief to all animal life and a part of the professional short sellers claimed that the news was most encouraging at this time, as fall plowing might bo at- icinpiea. Tho Saskatachewan Department of Ag riculture reports that groin-cutting is now general and that a medium wheat crop Is expected. Despite the bullish crop report as to com. there was a great deal of selling of that grain today, both for long and short accounts. Shorts were Inclined to believe that the government estimate had been fully discounted. Besides the rains over night were believed to- have been of much benefit to fall pasturage. The close, however, was strong on account of brisk shipping trade. Unloading by noiaers made oats relatively weaker tnan other groins. Shorts covered, but not enough to causo a lasting rally. Provisions weakened, owing to a de cline at the yards and becauso of a bear- isn rumor as to the government iigures regarding the number of stock hogs on farms. The Washington estimate, how ever, when posted snowed tho total to be about the same as a year ago. Quotations ranged as follows: Artlcle.l Open.l High j Low j Close.l Year. Tho market on this kind of hogs was active, with prices onywhere trom strong t as much as lOfti&a higher. The best hogs, sold up as high as 38,75, tho top yesterday having been $5.65. Shipping orders, fortunately for tho sell ing Interests, wero large, over half of tho hogs on aalo holnr iturchnsed hv huvers on shipping account. Packing hogs on the other hand wern extremely slow and lower. Buyers were very slow about starting out prefertng to wait until the, moro urgent shipping orders were filled. When thoy did make bids their offerings were fully 10c lower man yratcruay, ana tney stood pat nt those figures so that the market was practically at a standstill so far as pack ing hoga were concerned all the morning. Tho new arrivals numbered some 104 cars, or 28.080 head, which was a very generous suppty ior Wednesday, making in all aa many as 131.931 thead yarded during the first three days of tho week. The most noticeable feature- in the trade this morning was the appearance of some activity, as both packer and feeder buyers were looking over the liberal supply at an early hour and began to do business in good season. The improvement In the dciinnnd, for both killers and anything in the feeding line was very nnnarent. The general market could bo described as about steady, with such lambs as were hare selling around $6.5086-75. Tho supply of mutton continued proportionately light there not being many sales made at tho time ot making this report. Notwithstanding the liberal supply ot feeding lambs and sheep In sight thla morning prices ruled about steady with yesterday's close, or around 40HH0o lower than tho close of last week, The best feeding lambs sold largely around $6.00S 6.38, with thn less desirable grades going to me country at ao.zau'u.io.
