SENTIMENT IS QUITE BULLISH As Loiir ns Present Holders Refuse to Sell It AVIU He Impossible to SInke a Decline In Price Pcrninnefit, OMAHA, Sept. 9, IMS. The action In yesterday's corn market onco more proved how much more potent aro the real conditions surrounding the growing crop than are tho efforts made by short sellers to offset the same. At tention has been repeatedly called during the past month to tho fact that no com parison Is possible between conditions now existing and thoso which existed In 1901, which comparison has been so fre quently made. Sohie of the best author ities say that It must be borne In mind that with the Increased uses of corn which havo sprung Up In the meantime and the enormous Increase in population as compared with that period, a crop such as Is now promised would easily obtain a level of prices higher than here tofore thought possible. Sentiment in corn continues bullish, and the general Impression Is that so long as the largest holders who have taken the surplns off tho market do no , telling It will be difficult to maintain! any serious decline. Preferred months are showing the most strength. CHICAGO, Sept. 9. Improved prospects ior fall plowing had a weakening effect today on the price of wheat. The gov ernment report turned out even more bearish than expected regarding wheat, with corn lust as bullish as looked for find oats about as predicted. Net changes In the market were; Wheat Vaffllo de c2;.rn Mo 1088 t0 rMK (tain; oats, off 1-163 14c; provisions less expensive by a shade to 10c Wheat speculators took due notice that the rains in tho winter crop region had Improved opportunities for plowing. An other element against the buying side was the general opinion prevalent that the Washington estimate, due at tho close, would prove much larger than the total figured out a month ago. It developed that sonv direct export business In wheat had been done from Chicago. Thore was an offset, though, In the resumption of threshing In the northwest As a consequence the market showed but little power to rally and the feeling at the close was easy. Some of the leaders In corn declared that Important liquidation of September holdings had been going on quietly and that the market In a way was being bolstered to Prevent any sharn break. There was no doubt that September gave evidence of greater weakness than other months, when In the early part of the session me mantei was ueprcssea oy ine breaking of the drouth In the southwest. Covering by shorts late In tho day to be prepared for tho government report was tne cause or a substantial upturn. Dealers In oats marked time awaiting the government report. Price changes were narrow throughout Anxiety of holders to realise profits more than wiped out an early advance In provisions. Tne strength at me outset resulted from an advance In tho hog market. SHEEP As might have been expected with bo largo receipts It was a big day In the shoop barn yesterday and after both paoker and feeder buyers satisfied their immediate- wants at prices ranging any whero trom steady to 15Q25o lowor, there were still about twenty-five cars In first hands. No class ot buyers were In favor Of taking on more offerings unless at a lurtner pneo reduction, but as tne selling side of thn trsds would not consent to any undue pounding ot the market, tho remaining twenty-ftvo cars wero carrieu over for todsv' trade. Fresh receipts were very liberal again this morning, though not qulto as largo as yesterday. The official report was that In tho neighborhood ot 170 cars or 46,000 head made up the now arrivals, which when added to what was left from the urnvioUH dav made another unusually "big supply of shoep and lambs on sale. It was another case of the receipts being two-thirds feeders and wnilo tne total ro celpts were extremely liberal, tho actual supply of all kinds ot killers was little better than normal. Trade in botH the fat and feoder division started out slowly. In fact, it was some time In tho morning before tho shipments were sorted or ready for the Inspection ot the packers and tt was late In the forenoon before enough sales were made to Indlcato any changes in the trade. At that time, however, such offerings as changed hands wero on a basis of I020o lower. Tho market continued In about that condition, with sheep possibly not show ing quite so much decline as lambs. in the feoder trade the large receipts are us a matter ot course the chief fea ture. Receipts having Increased so sud denly the attendance of country buyers has not been sufficient to keep tho sup ply cleaned up close enough to provont the market breaking badly. As a result the market on feeders this morning was at least 15a lower than yesterday's low close, with a prospect that boforo the end of the day prices might be even as much as 2&3uc lowor. This means that the market In feeder lambs Is 40fl0c lower at least than the closo of last week, and in some cases possibly worse than that.
