Tim rnsh rinmanil In .till far In the lead of futures as to the outlook, rosi in tne next few weeks could ma terially reduce the yield in the states where a comfortable surplus now seems assured, and taking the situation, as a whole It seems almost a certainty that still higher prices are In prospect tor the near future. The government crop re port, which will be made publlo tomor row, Is expected to be a bullish report Cash corn was $jc higher. At . one time during the week wheat took first place in tho attention of trad ors. During the rest of the time the ac tivity in corn easily superseded wneat. Nevertheless the market tt-ot out of the rut which It had so long occupied and prices followed the steady uplift In corn, and when the week enaea nquiaauon came in the latter and wheat declined also. There has been steadily growing sentiment In favor of the long side, and the much heralded spring wheat move ment did not deter the trade from buy ing once the market gavo evidence of advancing. There Is a steady cash trade and some export business, but nothing of an extraordinary character. The weather In the northwest was unfavorable for gathering the crop, but conditions at present are Ideal. Cosh wheat was un changed. . . , While the large stock of oats has acted as somewhat of a, check on the advance, prices have risen to about former levels. Cash oats were o higher. CHICAGO OltAIN AN1 PROVISIONS Fen u res of the Trading and Closing; Prices on Ilnard of Trade. CHICAGO, Sept. 8. Corn today rose to a new high price record 'or the season In the December option and narrowly missed a new high level In the other fu'ares. In adequacy of relief from droutl and heat was target) responsible. The close though easy showed an advance of o to lHSlWo net. Other leading cereals mado gains wheat 0o to He and oats Ho to He. In provisions the outcome varied from 5o decline to 17Hc advance. It has been dry over most of the corn belt In the last two days and there was an official forecast Indicating a prac tical continuance of the same conditions. Only scattered showers were looked for, and that only In nart of the area. Knru. lutlvo offerings, which had been liberal at the outset, dried up quickly when It was noticed that buying orders from the country were absorbing all that tho nit could supply. Toward the end of the day corn bulls wero held In check by uncertainty re garding tho contents of the government crop report, due after tho close tomor row. On the other hand the market was sustained by the Missouri state crop re port, which told of the condition of the plant falling off 29 per cent since tho corresponding time a month ago. ivneai received most help today from the strength of corn, but the dry weather aroused some fear of decreased acreage and late seeding. Primary ar rivals were not half as large as a year ago. The lessening was due entirely to mo wunnoiuing or winter wneat soutn west, where the shortage, of corn Is most sovcre. Lower cables was the cause of a nine weakness cany and there was a drag later owing to the slowness of milling and shipping demand. Oats followed corn upward, notwith standing that the vlslblo supply oxhlblted a huge gain. Best prices, however, were not maintained. Provisions trade consisted ehleflv of transactions In lard. REPORT OF COPPER PRODUCERS It Falls to Elicit Response In Mar ket Stocks Move Irregularly! lint Show a Good Undertone. NEW YORK. Sent. 8. Representative stocks lost ground slowly today. Interest was diverted from the standard shares to specialties and to the grain ana cotton markets. Recessions among such stocks as Union Pacific, Reading, New York Central, Atchison. St Paul and Steel, which fell off a point or so, were due more to neglect than selling pressure. The widest movements were among the specialties, particularly the petroleum and railway equipment shares, several of which advanced l to 6 points, me nse failed to Influence tho leaders, a fact which led to some nreferentlal selling, Trading was dull and there was no weak ness on the decline. i.ater tne maraet stiffened, recovering part of the losses. Traders described the market as a waiting ono, referring to various forth coming events of sufficient Importance to restrict speculation. The excited advance In cotton options tended to dlscourago buying of stocks. The monthly report of the copper producers today elicited no response In the market. Even the copper stocks showed no Improvement after the publi cation of the figures, which wero dis tinctly bullish. Production ran behind consumption and total stocks on hand were reduced to tho smallest reported In years. Stocks moved Irregularly, but showed a good undertone. Total sales, par value, $1,400,000. Today's receipts came pretty closo to the record, which oc- currea October 10. llo, ana totaled up to some 63.714 head. While the supply was unusually liberal, Imost two-thirds ot It consisted of feed ing lambs and owes, principally lama leaving only luuo Detter man a norma, supply of fat lambs to meet the require ments of tho packer buyers. It was a fnlrly good market on all kinds of killing stuff, as buyers went around and bought tho fat end of tho receipts about as soon as It was sorted, with prices ruling any whore from steady to 10$j15c lower, the less acsirabie grades or lambs getting most ot thn decline. The quality of the lambs as a whole was only fair nnd there wero really no strictly prime offerings, such as wore here at the close ot last week, on solo. Tho hlRhest prlco paid was 17.40, being alven for one shipment of several loads. A rahge of $7.OOU7.40 would Include a large aharo of the sales. The sudpIv of mutton consisted almost entirety ot ewes and these were scarce, trado and prices showing no material changes from last week's closing quota tions. Though tho feeder trade got Under way In good season the general market was somewhat slow and values nad a lower trend, being generally 10Xo lower on the better grades of feeding lambs and ewes and In spots more than that on the com moner kinds of feeding lambs. "Admission to the hospital formerly ha been by card ot a county commissioner," said Meyer, "and Ragen attacked the In. vestlgator when Wleskowskl refused t admit a well-to-do patient with Ragen'i card. "In the maternity ward more than It per cent of the cases are tho wives ol city police or firemen. "A bailiff had his father deed all his property over to him and then had the father admitted to tho hospital, where lie expected the old gentleman to spend the rest of his days.
