OMAHA, Sept 8. 1915.
Many messages wete received In grain
circles yesterday, Indicating further daw
age to corn by dry, hot weather, Theie
Is a tendency to reduce rather than to
enlarge the estimate on the final corn
yield. It Is the general opinion now that
corn Is a big bull proposition. New hlgn
levels wero made yesterday on all cop
months for this grain. The market was
Influenced by a bullish feeling, which
was engendered by so-called export ad
vices from all parts or the belt, whloh
Indicated further crop losses and a great
reduction In the final yield. ThU In
formation was supplemented by repoits
or every conceivable, kind, all at which
caused a buying stampede, whloh forced
prices to the top notch of the day, Btronu
Interests were Instrumental In br.ng.ng
about a dip In prices during the morning,
but this operation was only an Incentive
to bring In new buying orders and pre.
clpltato the advance. The wire hoMsos
Joined with a group of big individual pit
tradern and tho operations of this ooterlo
covered unlimited quantities of oorn.
Homo of the worst reports which
reached the trade regarding the damage
conditions of the erop came from South
Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska points, and
late reports are to the effect that there
was no. let-up to the soorahlng heat and

I'Vatnrea of the Trmllnir and Closing;
Prior on Ilonnl of Trnde.
CHICAGO, Sept. 6.-Dleappolntlng ca
bles today caused wheat bulls to lose
courage. Feeling waa nervous at the fin
lh. with prices down HCfo to lo net.
Corn closed Ho to W1. off nnd oats at
Utto to HOio decline. The outcome for
provisions vailed from 10c tu 15c loss.
Holders of wheat showed a disposition
to take profits and go a little slow. For.
elgn advices, especially from Liverpool,
were noa nearly 6 strong as expected In
view of the sharp upturn yesterday on
this side. Russian offers were more lib
eral and there waa Increased selling pres
sure from Canada. Minneapolis and Du
luth sent word of generous arrival,- and
It was evident that the wenther In all
directions favored tho marketing of the
new crop.
Apparent absence of export call acted
as a drag on the wheat market. After
tho close, however, Baltimore announced
thirty loads taken for ocean shipment
which, If know nearller? doubtless would
have affected the course of prices here.
vorn ruiures weako ed with wneat. The
trade turned Its back on bullish views and
determined It was a profit-taking day.
Reports of huge shipments from Argen
tina received considerable attention, par
tlcularly a dispatch telling of 2S.O0O bu.
forwarded to New York.
Oats simply followed wheat and corn.
Commission houses, though, bought on
the dip a d a speculative leader gave De
cember support at the decline.
Provisions scored a fairly good advance
on hogs, but the larger packers were
active sellers on the bulge and caused an
Irregular reaction. Investment call for
deferred months was not up to the recent
total.

CATTLE Rocelpts of cattle wore fairly
liberal for .a i'Tluay and miuio up ulinoet
entirely of western rungeis. There were
only three or tour loaos of cornteds In
Uie yards and a good sliaro of the ran ye
cattle were on Uie rough ofder and not
especially desirable as beet. All classes
of buyers woto rather Indifferent and
must sales wero unywhero from a shade
to ik dime lower tuan yoJterduy. Com
pared with a week ago, clos.ng quota
tions for both native and range .est are
all of avflooo lowor, and the undertone to
the trade Is decidedly weak. Strictly
choice cornfede, as well as tho more .at
tractive of the western rangers, have
shown no great decline, as offerings of
this kind have been decidedly limited.
Less than a doxen loads of cows and
hoiters were Included in the ofiertngs
and the quality was not ut all attractive.
Trade opened out slow, With buyers bid
ding fully a dime lower than yesterday,
and as there was little outeldo support to
the trade tho bulk of the business was
dono at this decline. On the ordinary
run of cows and heifers closing prices
this week are fully a quarter lower than
last Vsal calves have been In active
demand and strong all week, and them
has ben a very good outlet and a prao
Ucally steady market right along for
bulls, .stags, etc
In stockers and feeders the market was
about as slow today as It over gets. Sup
plies have been accumulating In the
yards all week and yard traders were
more anxious to dispose of what they
had on hand than to further Increase
their holdings. The trend of values since
Monday has been steadily downward on
practically all grades and closing quota
tions for both heavy and light kinds are
all of 2&fJ35o lower than Monday. There
has been a fair Inquiry for stock and
feeding cows and helfors, but prices are
unevenly lower dm compared with a week
ago, and the volume of business on this
class of stock has been comparatively
limited.

other markets were all reporting sharp

and the market closed slow, with prices
a shade to. In some places, 6c lower than

SHEEP Though less sheep nnd lambs
wero on the market than last Friday, It
was a fairly large run, compared with
the corresponding day a year ago. The
estimate gave around 8,000 head as
yarded, being 4.2(5 hoad short of a week
ago, but 2,753 head more than on the
same day last year. With the exception
of a few loads of lambs and ewes, tho
quality of the offerings was nothing
extra. Fat lambs and ewes mode up
tho bulk of the supply, there being,
practically no yearlings and only a
sprinkling of wethers.
More activity was In evidence this
mornlnir. cureclnllv In the lamb division.
Tho packers apparently Were In need of
lamos, ana not omy nougnt up tne oest
grades early and at on improvement In
prices, but were good competitors for the
medium kinds. Tho general lamb mar
ket wan active with values 10tT16o higher.
A cut of the lambs that brought $7.50
yesterday, sold this morning at $7,00, with
practically tho same rort. ilulk of the
sales were made at 27.35477.00.
Another light supply of fat 8wes was
disposed of at prices steady to strong
row it any wetners wore onerea, ana
what were here met with slow sale on
a basis showing little If any difference
from the last day or two.
Trade In feeders was more or less qulot
n good part of the morning, and while
most of tho offerings sold in about tho
same notches ns of late, there seemed to
be a weak undertone. Strictly feeding
lambs are quotable from $1000685, weight
and quality determining the price. Mon
day's supply was light and the demand
was not nearly as broad as during the
first days of the week.
Trade for the week has been eharao

Including the mortgaged goods. Creel
later gave a note for tho value of the
goods.
After coming to Omaha Creel waa ar

wanted to take htm back to Missouri.
He was given into the temporary cue-

Girl Who Shot Lover
Is Raving Maniac
The strain of being constantly haunted
by the image of the faco of her dying
lover, whom she shot and killed, has
proven too great for Theresa Russell,
the young negro girl who killed Earl
Edward Stono a week or more ago at
Council Bluffs and she last night sud
denly became insane. Since the coroner's
Jury held that she shot In self-defense
and other Investigations practically
cleared her she was released on her own
recognizance.
She has been occupying the room where
tho killing occurred. She asserted that
whenever she closed her yes she could
hear again the sound of the shots and
see her lover stagger from tho bed and
fall dying on tho floor of the adjoining
room.
Her mind gnve way under the strain
and she was taken to St Bernard's
hospital last night In the police patrol
wagon a raving maniac.
Insurance Company
Avoids Obligation '
With a Clever Ruse
That the stnto insurance board per-,
mltted the Royal Indemnity company,
recently, to withdraw several thousand

tody because tho Jloyal company secured
a contract of reinsurance from a bonding
company, which, when it camo under
close scrutiny was found to glvo no pro
tection to policyholders. Is a circum
stance, which, attorneys assert, Is ro
vealed In a spit pending In county court
John E. Carman, a policyholder In the
defunct company, is suing tho Lyon
Bonding company frpm whlcn the con
tract of reinsurance was secured for $100
allegod due as the result of an accident
sustained by him. When the contract
of reinsurance, which. It is nsserted, wan
approved by tho Insurance board prior
to its allowing the Royal company to
withdraw Its securities deposited in ac
cordance with Nebraska' new insurance
law, wns brought Into court It was
found to contain a .claueo which in effect
said this:
"The Lyon Bonding company shall bo
llablo for any claims which tho Royal
Indemnity company may become llablo
for and pay."
It was contended by attorneys for thi
bonding company that tho Lyon company
was not liable for any claim ot a policy
holder which tho Royal company had not
paid and though Judge Crawford has
taken tho case under advisement at
torneys ear there is no doubt but this
Interpretation of the contract will b upi
held by tho courts.
September a Bad ! '
Month, According
to Brother Hickd
With the government's cky-pltol
vainly sweeping the heavens for a, fleck,
on their cloudless canopy to indicate)
rain and cooler. Brother Irl Hicks, or
his almanac, sees all kinds of things be
side tho ceaseless torment of torrid
weather.
For Instance, according to Hloka, tho
weather not only is to bo much cooler,
but earthquakes, tornadoes, frosts and
selsmlo disturbances am on tho way. In
fact, should havo been here before thin
to make good on the prognostication.
This stato of affair waa to burst In upon
us with the first day of September and.
so far aa reported, Is a long way off.
Bometlmes the lunar prophets seem tdl
"put ono over on" the government's air
current boys, who never deal In Ions dls
tanco shots. But this time, up to date,
the official tube testers have all the bet
ter ot It They have played tho game
safe, staid close to shore and for tho
most part simply passed out the dally
tip or "fair and warmer," (A weathor
man never heard of the word "hot" or
"hotter.") And Uie country continues to
elzxlo, hoping that on of two things may
soon happen, either tho weather man
will miss his guess or get a line on a
now combination.
