NEW YORK. Sept 4.-Now York and
Brooklyn spilt even In a double-header
today, Brooklyn taking the first game, 0
to s, while the champions captured tho
second, 3 to 1. Tho first game went
Brooklyn's way when Marquard expe
rlenced ono of his old-fashioned blowups
In tho. sixth Inning, tho visitors scoring
all their six runs In this inning on sin
gles by Moran, Cutehaw, Collns and Mc
carty, Smith's double, a pass, a sacrlflco
fly and an error by Merkle. The New
Yorkers mado their two runs off
Walker In the third innings on three
hits and a pass. Walker broke a finger
in this Inning and was rellovcd by Eagan,
who pitched well for tho rest of the game.
Tho second game was a pitchers' bat
tle between Tesreau and Ylngllng. Both
were effective, but three of the five hits
made off Ylngllng were bunched in the
third and resulted In Brooklyn's defeat.
Meyers opened with a double and Merklo
and Tesreau were easy outs. Snodgrass'
single scored Meyers and the batter
reached third on Collins' wild throw, He
scored on Doyle's single. Smith's home
run drive In the fifth saved Brooklyn
fiom a shut-out .
MoGraw gave his batting order the
most radical shift since the club became
a pennant winner In 1911, tho positions of
only two men and tho pitcher being left
unchanged.
Wheat suffered from a strained groin
and had to retire after two innings of
the first game, though he appeared later
a pinch hitter. Showers fell through
out both games. Scoro, first game:
