OMAHA, September 8. 1913.
During the last ten days or so prices
have cot sustained any great change, but
What there has been seemed to Indicate
an easier tone. Also there has been u
disposition on the part ot the bears to
worR for a reaction In values. Tho re
suit has not been Impressive in any de

aspect ot tho trade. Weather conditions
'he southwest are no longer regarded
with intense interest whloh characterlxed
every report which came to light a fort
night ago, as practically all ot the dam
ago done by the drouth naa een dis
counted. The best authorities now are ot
the opinion that, whatever changes ob
tained tn prices from now on will more
clearly reflect the actual supply and de
mand. It Is et too early to accurately
tell as to what extent the damage, has
been to corn the country over, pr what
there will be in the Hear future when
the frosts come, but the best authorities
are of the belief that there will be a
further reduction in the estimates of Hit
yield in the next government report, as
beyond any question of a doubt the crop
In the big yielding states ot the west
have been seriously Injured, probably
more so than .the trade fully realises.
The country has shown an Inclination to
offer corn If prices ore maintained, but
otherwise have not been free sellers,
which would seem)-to Indicate that the
movoment will not be extensive, only as
prices advance to a. point which will off
set the actual crop loss and It Is be
lieved that the trend of prices wilt more
clearly demonstrate what has reall

Cash corn waa Ulo, higher. .
In spite of the almost prevailing
unanimous bullish sentiment on wheat
the first two months of the crop year,
the last days of August found the mar

lowest level.
Cash wheat was lc higher.
The oata market of late ha been an
Uncertain proposition and many seem to
think tho total yield will be larger than
previously mentioned.

Firmness of cables and lighter deliver
ies than expected gave the wheat bulls
aid from the start and prevented any
llmportant reaction. Advices wero at
hand that the ISuropean crop as a whole
would bo only moderate at best. In this
connection It was pointed out that field
conditions In Argentina had not been
favorable for seeding, and that South
American competition with the United
States woutd be Trilnlmlied to .that ex
tent Sharp falling off in primary receipts
tended to strengthen bullish sentiment
regarding wheat The total arrivals
were but little more than halt those of
a year ago, and the two southwestern
terminals received less than one-third as
much as at the corresponding time last
season. A decrease In the visible supply
was another element of strength and so
also was large export clearances.
Reports of havoc from unseasonably
dry hot weather sent corn to nnw high
price records for the season in the De
cember and May options. Absence of
September deliveries called attention
forcibly to the very light stocks so that
heavy selling at the advance failed to
bring about any decided setback.
Oats went higher than corn, despite a
rise for September ot 2,000,000 bushels. The
volume ot trade waa large, principally
changing of other holdings to December.
In provisions, the roan feature) waa the
selling ot nearby and the purchasing of
deferred deliveries by September longs.
There were very heavy deliveries of lard
and ribs, a fact whloh weakened both
those commodities but did not affect
pork.

CATTLE Cattle receipt wero liberal
aialn thla momlng. 829 turn um
ported in, which makes the total for tne
two days this week 16.106 head, nearly
1.0M held larger than the corresponding
days of last week and PfwcaHjr tne
eame as for the correspond!: period of
acholceaTOrnf ed steers commanded steady
prices, but the mum. "MSh
grades were slow to 10c lower. A WW
Si 89.10 was paid for choice yeaHwf,
crnteds. which Is the highest prlee P
on this market since December of low
year, when 810.00 was the top. Packer
III seemed to feel that they paid too
much for their beef steers yesterday and
they wero decidedly bearish today. Tho
result was that the trade was alow on
range beeves, with prices around 10c
lower. It was a case of put on yester
day and tako Off today.
The demand for stooker nnd feeder
cow and heifers was good and anything
that tho feeder buyers could use com
manded steady prices. On the- other
band packers were bearish and they
wanted to tako oft at least a dime as
compared with yesterday. The feeder
buyers, however, bought freely that
no great number was left tx the pucker.
Good stock cattle and feeders were
again In active demand this momlng
and the better grades commanded steady
prices. As high as 33.30 was paid for
the Whittalier cattle from Wyoming by
a feeder buyer, this price being tho high
est ot the season to date for grass, stock.
After the more urgent orders were filled
the market did not show quite so much
strength, becoming In many cases us
much as 10a lower, but It will be remem
bered that tho market yesterday was
quoted stronger, so that prices are still
as high as at the close ot last week.
