GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET
Chicago Corn Holdings Are Said to
2e Badly Scattered.
MARKET IS QUITO UNCERTAIN
Irse Natttfeer ot Traders Taronsrk
nnt United States Mny Order
Their Op(lcna Sold at Al
most Any Time.
. OMAHA. August S3, 0914.
The holdings of corn in the Chicago
market are badly scattered. The words,
"badly scattered" are uod in this in
stance because of tho fact that there is
an army of small holders of corn in the
country who are likely to order the r
grain sold with profits in sight and th s
because of the Improved conditions said
to exist In many sections of the corn
belt, where rains have faUen. The larger
longs. In corn are likely to put up a
stiff battle in case there Is a concerted
movement ot the small holdings to get
out of their lines, but there Is such a
thing as too much corn coming out to
be readily absorbed, even by the larger
holders.
A report was issued yesterday, credited
to one of the presidents of a granger
railroad in the southwest, that placed
the total corn crop at 2,600,000,000 bushels.
Had theo figures been received a week
ago they would have been ridiculous
but they attracted no great amount ot
attention and comment yesterday, al
though the average trader felt that they
were too large. A reported shortage in
tho corn crop of the United States and
the tightness with whlci corn has been
held hy growers and aievutor men was
reflected yesterday ty the news from
Argentine that further additional lots ot
corn aro to come to New York from the
southern1 hemisphere and that it will be
manufactured In bond and exported.
The fact that It will be exported will save
nearly an the duty of IB cents per ousnei.
While It Is said that the remaining ex
portable surplus of Argentine Is only 0,
440,000 bushels, this amount would cause
great uneasiness in the ranks ot the
corn bulls, Cash com Was Ue lower.
There was another day of hesitancy In
the wheat market yesterday and while
prices were lower there was a steady
undertone to tho market.
Cosh wheat Whs Mc tower.
The average professional in oats ad
heres firmly to the bear side of the
market, but ne is not willing to offer
large quantities In the pit, oveH In the
face of heavy stocks at Chicago, Cash
oats were &fHc lower.
Clearances: wheat and flour equal to
$56,000 bushels, corn, 13,009 bushels and
Oats, S0.C03 bushels.

At the clote ot thb week fat lambs are
at least tic higher than a week ago and
old sheep are fully steady. Owing to the
fact that sorting was not nearly aa
heavy aa during the previous week, the
values ara really better than they ap
pear on paper. Trade Waa active on most
days and practically all kinds ot killer
found a good outlet at prevailing prices.
Tho, Improvement In the trade was chiefly
due to the very moderate receipts for
this time ot the year. While th week's
supply was slightly In excess of lost

two weeks ago and tho some Week ono

weighing from 65 to 70 pounds In the best
demand. The improvement In mutton
offerings waa not aa marked as la the
case ot Iambs, as while trado was actlvo
at a little advance In prices during the
forepart of the week the market seemed
to have an easier ton at tho week-end.
Anything In the lino of feeders was In
keen demand most of the week, with
feeding lambs selling as high aa I6.9G on
Tuesday, Feeder lambs were in very
moderate supply, which had Uio effect
ot raising prices. Toward the closo ot
th week the demand did not seem aa
broad and for that reason values wcro
