Dale Gear mado a fluke home run In
yesterday's game and It was thU which
beat Omaha out of a game which went
to the Kaws by a score of 6 to 6.
The fluke came In the third Inning,
when with Forsythe on flrat baso and
two men out Gear hit tho ball down the
first base line until It came to the right
garden fence, where It Interacts with
the bleechers. Here the ball -took a
bounce, went up In the air again and then
dropped out of sight In the bleachers. The
next man up wa an easy out and If It
hadn't been for Gear's luck there might
be a different tale to tell.
Omaha did not win the gomo-that
much Is a.clnch but tho shameful way In
Srhlch "Old Lady" CoChreham was treatrd
should be brought to the attention of
the humane officer. Those who have fol
lowed the destinies of the Omaha club
lor the last two seasons know that
Cochreham has beaten Omaha every time
he has pitched against them. Never did
the team get over four or five hits until
yesterday, when ten rich clouts were
picked from his offerings and In the
eighth Inning he was driven from the
mound under a fusillade of safe hits.
Omaha Braces Up.
Omaha plugged along for eight Innings
before they managed to slip a run
across. Then It was started by two con
secutive orrors by Cochran. Then Cochre
ham blew up and with the bases full
and two out he was Jerked and Fuller
ton brought to the rescue. "Hick" John
con caught the first ball on the nose and
elammed It to tho center garden, where
Gear Dale nipped It
The Kaws started early. McLarry
opened the second wtlh a single and
scored on Omar's double. Rapps walked
and both advanced on Applegate'a wild
pitch. McAllister landed safe on Jus
tice's error and French slipped a two
bagger to the left field fence, while Gear,
Itappa and McAllister. scored.
In the second Forsytho was Bafo on a
single to right and Gear scored himself
and Forsythe with a home run
In the eighth for Omaha Hennessey was
safe when ho forced Johnson at second.
Orubb was safe on Cochran's error, Hen
nessey going to third. Anothor error by
Cochran of Stevens' grounder scored
Hennessey and put Orubb on third. Jus
tice singled, scoring Grubb. Coyle singled
coring Stevens. Thomason forced Coylo
at second and Justice went to third. Con
salton's single scored Justice.-
In tho ninth Hennessey opened with a
single and Grubb was hit by a pitched
ball. Schlpko batted for Slovens and
sacrificed, ikonnossey scored on Justice's
out. Score:

AHEAD OF THE VISITORS
Charley Babb, the new manager for
the Omaha Base Ball club, has a new
wrinkle which he Is trying out with the
Omaha team. Heretofore It has always
been the policy of the managers for the
Omaha club to have the team take prao-'
tlce prior to a game after the visiting
team has practiced. Babb has reversed
this system, sending his team In for
practice before the visiting team Is al
lowed the field. "I figure," said Babb,
"that the boys get a few minutes' rest
this way, whereas the other way they
Jump right from practice Into the game,
getting no 'chance for a breathing spell,
