CHICAGO, July 31. Chicago made- it
two straight from Now York today by
taking the long end of a 6 to 4 score,
after a hard fought uphill battle. With
the game apparently lost the local men,
with tho aid ot pinch hitters, managed to
tie the count and force Rube Marquard
to retire. This retirement1, however,
proved a good thing lor the New York
pitcher, Inasmuch a shls record of nine
consecutive wins remains Intact
To Irry Cheney, tho Chicago pitcher,

McGraw's men yesterday, and today
when he came to the rescue with the

run. Jimmy Lavender started the "game
for Chicago and did not allow the Visitors

In the fourth inning Outfielder Burns
was knocked unconscious with a thrown
ball by Brldwell.
After several doctors were summoned,
he regained consciousness and refused to
be taken out of the game, T,he New
York team Is without the Services of
their captain, Larry Doyle, who is forced
to remain on the bench as a result of a
bruised heel which he sustained yester
day In the game when he came In con
tact with Zimmerman's spikes at third

Seaton pitched well up to the eighth,
when he was ahmmered for two singles
