The average yield of land In New York
la greater than In Nebraska. Govern
ment figures show that average New
York crops exceed those of Nebraska by
the followlnc amounts: 7H' bushels of
wheat per acre: 64 bushels of oatsj 42
bushels of potatoes; lVi bushels of corn
Because of the proximity to the great
est market In the country for farm prod
ucts prices for crops are from 15 to 0
and even ' 100 per cent higher In New
York than In Nebraska. It Is because
a quarter or a half, of the proceeds do
not c to the railroads for freight.
Brcause o the greater yield per acre
and the nearness to the market, valuesj
acre higher In NeW York than In Ne
braska, as government figures show.
Wonderful results are obtained from
fruit. The average gross receipts for a
good orchard of apples there amount
to t23$ per acre. One man with 1,240
cherry trees (about ten acres) sold his
last year's crop for 114.000. Another
farmer -with fifty acres of peach trees
received JU.000 for one year's crop. New
York Is second of all states In the union
ta orchard products, their value being
one-eighth of the total of the United
Htates. There is no danger of late frosts.
Prices are higher tnan in me west oa

A great diversity of. crops are grown
In New York. The government figures
show that the soil is fertile and not

houses and barns so large and con
venient that they could only bo repro
duced In the west at a great outlay of

Generally speaking, the spring wheat
Plant is too tar advanced to iwrmit any
damage by black rust, and while the dis
ease is to be seen In scattered sections,
as Is the case every year, the growers
feel no uneasiness as to the results. The
weather for some days pajst has been of
the best possible cnaracter in our own
spring wheat,, belt, and while the plant
Is at least a fortnJshi late, north of the
International line, the groinmen of that
section believe that the outcome will, bo

Bear pressure on wheat camo chiefly

ports touring in the northwest had en
larged their estimates of tho probable
yield.
Troubles on tho bull side ot the wheat
market were emphasised by advices that
orop and weather conditions In Franco
and Russia liad changed for tha better,
Argentina shipments on a gigantic scale
tended to weaken the com market. Flat
tering crop reports from Iowa counted
also in favor ot the bears.
Oats declined owing to selling on the
part of cosh and elevator concerns that
expect to have the handling of much ot
the new grains.
Buyers, Including a prominent specula
tor, unloaded holdings of provisions.
About the only support for hog products
came from pit traders who nad been,
