by James L. Stlce, superintendent ot the
Fourteenth division of the railway mail
service, upon receipt of notification from
Postmaster .General Bruleson.
In addition to Increasing the weigh
limit on parcel post packages the second
xone will be abolished, the first and sec
ond zones being consolidated and the
rates applying to the first zone will pre
vail. Under this new order the rates for

will be Identical per pound with the rates
on a package going but ten miles.
There Is also a possibility that In ths
near future the rates on all zones will
bo reduced slightly, or a flat rate may
be established which will bo tho same
for any distance per pound. This, how
ever, is still only under consideration.
The rates on parcel post packages ovei
the eleven pounds will be In proportion
to the rates on smaller packages, that is,
an increase of 3 cents per aooraonu
pound.
There will be no change In the sire of
the packages, under the new order, th
seventy-three-inch limit still remaining
In effect.
No Additional ClerUa.
The new system, according to Mr. Slice,
will affect tho railway mall service some
what, but the fourteenth division is pre
pared to handle it with little change In
the facilities. No additional clerks will
have to be put on to handle it. When the
parcel post went Into effect on January 1
the facilities at the Union Pacific trans,
fer were Increased, as far as space was
concerned, until on June 1 the space was
double what It had been originally. The
heavier packages will increase the bulk
of mall considerably and take up more
space, but Mr. Stlce Is confident that
there Is plenty of facilities to take care
of the Increase.
"I figure that we will have enough fa
cllltles to handle the heavier malls,"
said Mr. Stlce. "In the annual report I
hava Just completed, which shows that
the Increase In mall handled by the clerka
during the last six months has been 12
per cent over that of the corresponding
period last year, we, therefore, know
approximately what wo. will have to con
tend with. Ten per cent of this Increase
was due solely, I believe, to the parcel
post."

post packages, the postmaster general
having been given authority, by the
original act, to make any change he
thought beneficial to the department

early yesterday of having 2,300 volta
of electricity pass through his body.
While working with C. W. Billings, an
other lineman, on a high ?ole at Twenty
third and Cuming streets, he accident
ally caused a circuit between live wires
with his two hands with the result that
he was tightly held by the magnetlo In
fluence. In a couple of moments Billings suc
ceeded In getting his companion worker
loose and after carrying him down the
pole took him Into the office of Dr. B.
G. WIUIs, a few steps down the street
where the unconscious man was brought
back to life.
McClure was then conveyed to the of.
fices of the Omaha Electrlo Light and
Power Co., where he was placed under
the care ot the company physician, who
found that the patient had withstood the
shock without any serious effect.
It was first reported that McClure had
been killed by the shock.

Monday up to 3 o'clock went Bun-
day's high temperature Just one better in
bringing the Fahrenheit to 101 degrees.
It was a real sample of torrid tempera
ture with the humidity ' of a tropical
climate. At 1 o'clock the thermometer
at the weather bureau registered 95 de
grees; at 2 o'clock It Jumped to 00 and
at 3 o'clock Is reached tho summit for
this year 101 in the shade.
Nine out of seventeen of the station,
in the state ot Nebraska under the di
rection of the United States weather
bureau reported temperatures of 100 or
over Sunday, Holdrege being the high
est with 110 and Culbertson second with

Peacemaker Dies
-from His Injuries
George 8. Carson, a telegraph aperator
at Arlington, Neb., died Monday morn
ing at the Nicholas Senn hospital as ths
result ot blood clots at the base of his
brain, caused by a hammer blow he re
ceived while acting aa peacemaker in a
family quarrel. N. U. Unthank, pro-,
prletor ot an Arlington hotel, Is being
held by the authorities there.
Carson is declared to have attempted
an arbitration between Unthank and hi
wife aa the two were engaged In a heated
discussion.
