, Continental Europe was again a leading

there were large purchases at Chicago
on continental account According to
cable advices rocelved from France
heavy rains have fallen throughout that
republic tho last three days, and this,
too, in sections where the wheat is ready
for the harvester. One cablegram said
that considerable wheat Is standing in
the shock in continental Europe and that
more or less damage has been done by
tho heavy downfall of rath, with pros'
peats of Btlll more wet weather.
It would be aidlfflcut matter to say
with any degree of certainty oe to the
amount of wheat bought in this country
by foreigners yesterday. Some placed
the total. Including freight rodra en
gaged, at 8,000,900 bushels.
An authority In the east said that their
advices showed that foreigners were buy
Ins soft winter wheat as well as the
hard wheat, which is to clear via Phil
adelphia. Baltimore and Newport News.
The fact that Argentina shlpmonts ot
wheat are estimated at only 40J,000 bush
els this week, which shows a falling oft
of 1,100.000 bushels, compared with the
corresponding figures a year ago, at
tracted but llttlo Attention.
Cash wheat was WOVic lower.
Corn closed around, tfte best prices for
the day yesterday, and showed net gains
of Vic. The early weakness In oats
caused heavy selling of corn .and, with a
loss in tho buying, power, price conces
sions wero seen. Later In the day the
corn market was helped, by wheat and
the early losses were fully regained.
Cash corn was unchanged to Ho lower.

Tighter freight rates on tho ocean
formed tho accepted reason to explain
why Transatlantic buying1 of wheat hod

fact that holiday conditions prevailed at
Liverpool and Paris, where of late a good

rise. An additional causa of weakness
lay in reports of general rains northwest
tending to delay shipment of spring crop
on both sides of the Canadian line.
No rallying power of any consequence
developed, although acceptances from the
country turned out lighter than had been
the rule for some time. 8horta furnished
about the only support there was for the

BOSTON, July. 11. The Commercial
Bulletin tomorrow wll say ot the woo)
market:
While the market Is rather spotty,
there Is a rather batter feeling apparent
Prices have not appreciated particularly,
although there seems to be a hardening)
of values both here and in the west
Individual transactions have not been,
large, but the total volume 0? tiuslness
has been of fair proportions, and have
included territories ot all kinds, both
old and new' and fleece wools. A strong
demand Is noticeable for coarse combing
wools of quarter-blood grade and below
and a tendency is reported towards finer
wools also, especially for women's wear.

CATTLE Fresh receipts of cattlo this

1.400 head larger than for the same days

tor the Same corresponding period a year
ago.
Most ot the cattle In this morning wero
beet steers. At the same time there was
a fair demand and practically everything
on sale changed hands In good season at
strong prices. The best yearlings sold up

comma, uuv un quality loaay was
somewhat better, As noted yesterday the

higher, on the general run ot cattle, with
yearlings around 36o higher.
There were only a. few odds and ends
of oo ws and heifers and they commanded
fully steady prices. They ore safely lMf
20o higher than last week.
There were no stockers or feeders ot
any consequence, but Uie feeling for the
week is strong.

HOGS Receipts were fair for a Friday,
but there was a better reeling in the trade
this morning, and on the whole values
registered n slight advance. Shippers
were the first to take hold, making
their purchases at steady to strong fig
ures. When packers started out, the fig
ures they offered were just about stsady
with yesterday's average, but ssilers held
on for better money, and, as there was
a fair Inquiry from all quarters, they
finally got it The earjy tradS was very"
stow, in tact were was no special activity
in evidence at any time, but once started,
the movement was fairly continuous, and
by 10 o'clock all but a rw loads, had
changed hands, Prices were, on an aver
age, just a shads higher than yesterday's
general market, with oocaalonal sales
showing a gain of close to five cents. In
other words, values were about steady
with yesterday's strong close. Bulk of
the hogs sold at $8.70Oa.76, with the long;
string at the lower figure. Some choice
lights sold as high as $8.90, just a nickel
over yesterday's highest price.
Considering the moderate supplies, the
week's trade has been rather unsatis
factory from a seller's standpoint For
the five days values have remained about
stationary, and today's average is If any
thing a little stronger than at the, close
of lost week. With the exception of Mon
day, each day's market has been more or
less draggy, and on most days prices
have weakened towards the close.
Today's offerings amounted to about HI
cars or 7,200 head, making the total for
the five days in ths neighborhood of
40,193, This Is a decrease ot over 3.000
head as compared with the same days last
week and about 8,600 short of the supply
for the same period lost year.

8H10ISP Blow, steady, was tho way
both buyers and sellers described the
market on both sheep and lambs. The
trade was pretty well supplied with of
ferings tor a Friday, and. as tor some
llttlo lime back, lambs made up by for
Uie greater part ot the receipts. The
lamb supply amounted to about fifteen
cars, While some five cars Included praa
tlcally all the old stock. The demand
seemed very fair, which enabled sellers
to dispose ot thslr. holdings, suitable as
killers, before 10 o'clock.
A range of 87.7i88.00 took nearly all
the lambs on tale and, as on yesterday,
the latter figure Was the high point of
the day, being paid for about thres cars
ot Idaho lambs weighing around sixty
seven pounds.
Among the sales of what few aged
sheen wera offered wero thrsa cars of
Idaho wsthers at $1.66. Some range won
axeraging 100 pounds sold at Jl.2ft. Noth
ing else ot consequence took place In tho
nsea sneep division.
There were a few feeders in s sht this
morning nnd they were practically, all
lambs and sold nt prices showing little
