buyer of cash Wheat In tho United Btates
yesterday, and It may also bo said that
there were large purchases at Chicago
on continental account According to
cable advices rocelved from France
heavy rains have fallen throughout that
republic tho last three days, and this,
too, in sections where the wheat is ready
for the harvester. One cablegram said
that considerable wheat Is standing in
the shock in continental Europe and that
more or less damage has been done by
tho heavy downfall of rath, with pros'
peats of Btlll more wet weather.
It would be aidlfflcut matter to say
with any degree of certainty oe to the
amount of wheat bought in this country
by foreigners yesterday. Some placed
the total. Including freight rodra en
gaged, at 8,000,900 bushels.
An authority In the east said that their
advices showed that foreigners were buy

hard wheat, which is to clear via Phil

No rallying power of any consequence
developed, although acceptances from the
country turned out lighter than had been

market, so that final quotations were the

CATTLE Fresh receipts of cattlo this
morning were very small,, only fourteen
cars being reported in. Still this makes
the total for the five days this week about
1.400 head larger than for the same days
last week, and over 1,000 head larger than
tor the Same corresponding period a year
ago.
Most ot the cattle In this morning wero
beet steers. At the same time there was
a fair demand and practically everything
on sale changed hands In good season at
strong prices. The best yearlings sold up

HOGS Receipts were fair for a Friday,
but there was a better reeling in the trade
this morning, and on the whole values
registered n slight advance. Shippers
were the first to take hold, making
their purchases at steady to strong fig
ures. When packers started out, the fig
ures they offered were just about stsady
with yesterday's average, but ssilers held
on for better money, and, as there was
a fair Inquiry from all quarters, they
finally got it The earjy tradS was very"
stow, in tact were was no special activity
in evidence at any time, but once started,
the movement was fairly continuous, and
by 10 o'clock all but a rw loads, had
changed hands, Prices were, on an aver
age, just a shads higher than yesterday's
general market, with oocaalonal sales
showing a gain of close to five cents. In
other words, values were about steady
with yesterday's strong close. Bulk of
the hogs sold at $8.70Oa.76, with the long;
string at the lower figure. Some choice
lights sold as high as $8.90, just a nickel
over yesterday's highest price.
Considering the moderate supplies, the
week's trade has been rather unsatis
factory from a seller's standpoint For
the five days values have remained about
stationary, and today's average is If any
thing a little stronger than at the, close
of lost week. With the exception of Mon
day, each day's market has been more or
less draggy, and on most days prices
have weakened towards the close.
Today's offerings amounted to about HI
cars or 7,200 head, making the total for
the five days in ths neighborhood of
40,193, This Is a decrease ot over 3.000
head as compared with the same days last
week and about 8,600 short of the supply
for the same period lost year.

trade was pretty well supplied with of
ferings tor a Friday, and. as tor some

seemed very fair, which enabled sellers

the lambs on tale and, as on yesterday,
the latter figure Was the high point of
the day, being paid for about thres cars
ot Idaho lambs weighing around sixty
seven pounds.
Among the sales of what few aged
