divided the honors with, outsiders at the
Grand circuit races today. Four events
were carded and in only two did the. so-
called class ot the field perform accord
ing to form.
Barorr A., lopheavy favorite in the 2:07
pace, wdn handily hvstw.o straight heats.
Farra, which received roost of the
backing In the 2:12 trot, also disponed of
his flald without trouble.
Empire Direct, conceded the 2:18 pace
before the flag fell, was never In the
running, and O'Brien Boy, liked only by
a few, captured the ' event
Distanced In First Hnnt.
Cheeriy, thought by the experts to be
the likeliest In the Faslg stake race, the
event of the day's program, was dis
tanced in the first heat. Cascade,
which furnished a poor eighth In this
heat won the next two without trouble.
The 2:18 pace was tho first race ot the
day. Empire Direct the favorite, broke
badly in the first heat and did
not regain his feet during the remainder
of the race. Holly Brand,' which sold
cheaply in the betting, won the first heat
with two lengths to spare, but "broke in
tho bock stretch ot the next heat, It
going to O'Brien Boy. O'Brien B.oy
showed his gamcness by winning the
final heat and the race Jn a driving fin
ish which tired Holly Brand in the
stretch.

The feature ot the card was the Faslg
stake race. Checny, the favorite, was
distanced in the. first heat- Cascade, a
poor eighth In this heat took the next
two heats, with Rhythmell pressing blm
closely in the second. The third heat
was driven In a severe rainstorm.
Farra, the favorite In tho 2:12 trot the
final race ot the day,, won handily. Grand
Marshall, also well backed, gave him hta
hardest opposition.

Western league team, announced today,
Owner Holland of 'the St Joseph Western
club obtains Pitcher Cliff Healy,. who as
a holdout has been playing semi-professional
ball at Colorado Springs this
season. Pitcher Thane Johnson of the
St Joseph team baa been sold to the
Hastings club ot the Nebraska State
league under ah optional agreement

Dunn at Stspleton On July 4. Mlsa Holll
day was a high school student In Call
away, arid Mr Dunn was formerly editor
of the Callaway Courier-Tribune, but re
cently sold out and accepted a position
as foreman of the Stapleton Enterprise.
Mlsa Jva Chadd and Mr. William Henry
Harrison Gray, two popular young people
of this locality, went to Kearney on July
3, supposedly to celebrate the Fourth, but
were united. In marriage that day. They
will reside on a farm near Callaway.
From some unknown cause the large
farm barn of John Heed, southwest of
this city, caught fire and was completely
consumed at an early hour on the morn
ing of July 4, and about 30) bushels ot
helled corn were consumed. The loss
was covered by insurance.

carbolto acid early yesterday afternoon
and died at 4 o'clock In the Omaha Gen
eral hospital, Sho is survived by Walter
H. DeHaven, a son, who is employed by
the American Smelting and Refining
company.
Mrs. DeHaven and her son lived at tha
Twenty-eighth avenue residence until
yesterday, when they sold their furniturs
and broko up housekeeping. Their plan
was to llvo in a hotel.
Coroner Crosby took charge of tho body
and will hold an Inquest today.
