Persistent rumors that a large amount of export business had been done gave the bulls control ot the wheat market today, but the gain largely disappeared when diligent inquiry failed to Show that the stories had much basis In. fact Latest prices were rela tively weak, but Ho to Ho over last night. Corn finished Ho off to. Ho up, oata a, shade lower to ViWVic advance and pro visions varying from 10c decline to a gain ot Uttc Heavy selling on the advance In the wheat pit shook the confidence ot buy ers, especially during the last halt hour. Only 110,000 bu. could be confirmed as actually having been sold here for ex port and there was decided scepticism about alleged foreign buying In Kansas and New York. It was also brought out that the weather practically everywhere northwest had been showery and cool and that there was nq new distress In sight for the crop. Corn scored a fair advance, because ot predictions - of a lighter movement from the Interior and on account of chinch bug damage in Kansas and Illinois. Fine weather, though, and a disposition to curtail risks aver the holidays acted later as an offset. Oats followed the gen eral course of other grain, but kept In side narrow limits, with trade light. Holders of provisions took advantage ot higher hog prices and realised profits In a 'vigorous manner. Eventually most ot the active options were under last night's Open, I Hlsh.l Low. TRADE ENTIRELY PERFUNCTORY None of Prominent Speculative Stocks Motpm Un or Uoivn bjj 8,o Much na n Point United States Bonds Decline. " NEW YORK, July 8,-Atfalrs were at a standstill today in the slock market. The principal thrme was the outbreak ot hostilities among the Balkan nations and the consequent depression of Euro pan changes. Ending ot the war be tween Turkey nnd the Balkan allies and the successful conclusion ot the midyear settlements had given promise ot a grad ual Improvement In the financial situa tion. Fear was expressed today, how ever, that the renewal ot war would upset these calculations by prolonging the period ot strain and delaying tho return to the usual channels of Europe's hoarded mlllons of gold. The Immediate eitect on this market was a small downward movement In sympathy with the foreign exchanges. London sold soma Southern Pacific nnd Canadian Pacltlo and probably would have unloaded stocks here on a larger scale, but for the thinness of the mar kct. Traders we"ro Inclined to follow the course of tho foreign markets. At home there were no developments on which to base speculative movements and the new crista In the Balkans was utilised as a bear argument. Trading, however, wes entirely perfunctory. The volume ot business fell to tho lowest ot the year and while the drift vaS downward, the movement was so slight as to be almost Imperceptible. None of the prominent speculative stocks moved up or down as much at a point. There was no out side Interest and professional traders were unwllltnf to mako extensive com mitments on the ova of the holiday. This morning's advance amounted to fully 10a, There was a broad killing demand and while the shipping In quiry was considerably lighter, trade was active at the advance ana everything had been sold at an early hour. Hulk ot the sales were made at $$.6ttS,?e, with tha lOng Strong at $8.70. A fair share of the supply was made up pt good lights, hut shippers did not want, anything bad enough to pay a top, and the best price reported was 88.78. Fr6m a seller's standpoint the market has been in very good condition all week. Supplies have, as a rule, been heavy, but the demand has shown a good deal of lm. provement and prices havo ruled stronger all the way through. Shipping orders fell off some today, but this is to be expected before a holiday and does not Indicate any real weakness in the demand. Receipts today included sbme 166 cars, or 10,600 head, bringing the total for the four days up to 43.903, This Is nearly 4,000 smaller than last week, but owing to the fact that Thursday of the corresponding week last year was a holiday, the supply shows an.
