Splendidly
OMAHA, July 2, IMS.
Elevator concerns at Chicago and cash
handlers Of grain are making prepara
tions to handle millions of bushels of
new wheat during the next few weeks.
The southwest sold about 760,000 bushels
of new grain to a Chicago concern yes
terday and this was hedged, In the pit
tor July and September delivery. Under
present conditions the bears seem to hold
the whip hand, although Chicago wheat
stocks at this time are abnormally small.
As ah offset to this, however. Is the al
most entire absence, of export demand
and a general apathy to the trade.
The transaction: at the seaboard yoster
aay on foreign account were reported at
twenty boat loads and the total sales In
Chicago were only 86,000 bushels.
The open Interest In July wheat has
been materially reduced during the last
five or six days, as liquidation by longs
has been on a liberal scale, while on the
other hand shorts have bought freely,
doubtless fearing something out of the
ordinary might possibly turn up and
cause losses to them.
Cash wheat of o lower.
The holdings In corn are not as strong
as many people In tho trade believe, and
any sharp price losses will see further
fhd Pronounced liquidation to these
holders. The corn plant throughout the
5" J. Progressing nicely and those who
bought that cereal on hot weather reports
have been made to pay the piper.
The Argentine corn Is being moved out
at a rapid rate artd shipments from that
country will again be large. Cash corn
was Ho higher.
The oats market continues strong and
steady. Cash oats were Viltc htghor.

of the market. There was a keen bor

With the more active demand pricea

There were no stock cattle or feders In

HOQS-A slight advance In prices at
other points and a good local buying de
mand served, to overbalance the effeot
of the liberal receipts and first bids this
morning were a little stronger than
yesterday's average. ShibDsr huveira
opened the trade by taking over a good
share of the supply at figures that
ehowed a nickel advance. The big fea
ture ot the market Waa the excellent
quality of the 'supply, near everything
being on the light or light mixed order.
As a result ot this condition the com
petition) was keen on all grades, and In
the end paokers put up their droves at
Strong to (c higher prices. The general
market averages almost a nickel better
than Wednesday, but the large propor
tion of light stuff Is responsible for this
extra strength and the values are quoted
as. being strong to So higher. Movement
was reasonably .active, and practically
everything had been sold before 10
o'clock. Bulk of the supply moved at
IS.6898.es, and soma choice lights went
to, shippers as high as 13.70. This latter
price Is, by the way. the highest that has
been paid slnco April, When tops reached
For the three days values show a net
advance ot 16c Receipts have been lib
oral all week, and while the early trade
on each day has been slow and dull, the
markets have closed up fully as strong
as they wero at any other time. Therer
has been an. eager demand for oil grades,
especially light mixed and- butchers, and
as a rood share of the week's receipts
waa on the light order, there has been
a broad outlet for everythlnc.
Today's receipts amount to about 197
cars, or 18,400 head, making the total for
the three dava 82.260 head. This Is nearly
8,000 amoller tnan for trie same days last
week and over 2,000 lighter than for tho
same period last year.
