There U nothing tike a change of-scenos
to Rive one a new point of View and ti)
restore the flagging spirit. With the on
comlnif hot weather our thoughts natur
ally turn to the selection of a suitable
place to spend a few weeks In recreation,
and the facilities and data offered by the
transportation lines of today certainly
provide plenty of scope for that selection.
For those who do not wish to go. far
from home there Is no more beautiful
spot than Iake Okobojl and Spirit Lake,
la. Okobojl, the largest of these lakes,
han a richly wooded shoro line thirty-
seven miles In extent, broken here and
there with excellent bathing beaches. The
fishing Is good, the principal varieties be
ing bass, pickerel, crapples and perch.
There Is no lack of accommodations at
Okobojl J In fact, the character of Its Inns,
lodges and hotels Is superior to the aver
age summer resort.
These lakes aro easily reached via the
Chicago, Milwaukee fc 8t l'aul railway,
leaving Omaha at 7:40 In the morning
and arriving there at 4 p. m.
Many Lakes.
There are also hundreds of lakes on
the Milwaukee line In Wisconsin, where
the summer traveler can find both rest
and social enjoyment. Pox lake, Delevan,
Lake Geneva, Beaver lake, Nagawlcka,
Nashotah, Okauchee, Pcwatikee, Winne
bago and scores of other beautiful places
lies within few hours' rldo from Chicago,
and for those who wish to go farther
from the haunts of civilization a night's
the fisherman's paradlse-the Star lako
country on the Wisconsin Valley division
of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul
railway. Minocqua, Wis., Is the central
distributing point for a veritable network
of trails and highways that radiate to
fully a hundred beautiful and easily ac
cessible lakes, abounding In nil kinds of
gaino flsli. each with Its Individual charm
and attractiveness and Its offering of
comfort and hospitality. I fpent two
weeks In this region a few summers ago
and can truly say that no description can
do It Justice.

For thoso who care more for travel
than for boating, bathing and fishing,
there aro any number of delightful trips
offered this slimmer. One of the most
attractive of theso Is the weekly cruise
over the great lakes traversing tho
shores of Tikes Michigan, Superior and
Huron. These1 cruises last Just a week
and -are comparatively cheap.
A very Interesting and delightful trip
is offered in the circuit tours to eastern
points, tho route being Interspersed with
lake, river and ocean trips, thus breaking
tho monotony of a rail journey. The
trip over the great lakes to Buffalo,
down the St Lawrence river to Mon
treal and Quebec cannot be surpassed
In beauty and when you reach the quaint
old city of Quebec you can easily im
agine that you have arrived at a foreign
port across the .seas.
Europe also claims a large share -of
summer travel, and the number who
will go from Omaha and vicinity this
year Is larger than ever. It Is no longer
considered a tremendous and cxpenslvo
undertaking to go abroad, and why
should It when one can travel 3,000 miles
on a one-class steamer for $50 to JGS with
teri days living thrown In, or In first
cnbln on a more presumptuous steamer
for 85 to $125 with all tho comforts and
luxuries of a first class hotel? On the
other side the expense of first class travel
Including beat hotels range from $7.60 to
$10 per day, and second class from
to $5 per day.
