According to Assessor Counsman, prop

district looks 2S per cent better than It
did before the tornado," he said; 'In fact

Brave Bob Yields
to Tenth Attempt
Upon' All His Lives
Bob, for many years at the Unltt
Roeckel drug store, Seventeenth and Kar
nam streets, committed suicide yester
day at t a. m. by jumping under the
lng at 3 o'clock by jumping under tho
wheels of a speeding automobile at Six
teenth and Harney street. ThI was
Bob's sixth attempt at suicide In as many
months. Despondency over a love affair
caused him to take his life.
During his life Bob escaped death nine
times, but nine lives were all he possessed
and when he threw himself under the
wheels of the automobile this morning
the end came under the heavy wheels of
the car.
On five pre'lous occasions Bob tried to
commit suicide by taking poison, but
overcame the effects of the drug. An
other time he' ran In front of a Karnam
street car and part of his tall was cut
off, necessitating the amputation of the
stub that was left Twice dogs tried to
kill him, but each time he escaped the
fray & little more dlaflgured
Edward Unltt. one of the member of
the firm, sent after Bob's body so he
could .give him a decent burial. When
the messenger reached the scene of the
tragedy a street cleaner had shoveled
Bob, whom he thought only an ordinary
cat, Into an .ash can and carted him
away.
Oases Reinstated
in District Court
Cases against ninety-eight persons wh6
had appealed from sentences In police
court and then failed to appear, leaving
their bondsmen liable, ware reinstated by
Judge Leslie In district court. Th casts
were set for trial July 1.
Half of the bondsmen Interested ap
peared In court, asking that the cases be
reinstated. Practically all of them as
serted that their prlnolpals were ready
to come Into court, but that they had hid
no notice that they should have appeared
at the beginning of the February term,
when they defaulted.
Action to collect on the bonds wl be
taken by County Attorney Magney In
the cases of defendants who fall to ap
pear July 1. Whatever amount Is thus
collected will go Into tho school fund.
Bonds Involved In action by the court
amounted to about (15,000.
Six cases were dlsmUsed.
Federal Petit Jury
Acquits Mann, but
Disagrees on .Bowers
The federal petit jury reported Arthur
Mann not guilty and disagreed In the
case of J. W. Bowers. Mann and Bowers
were charged with using the malls to
defraud In the promotion to sell what
they called a "simplex powder ejector."'
After being out all night and until 2
o'clock In the afternoon the Jury dis
agreed In the case of Bowers.
Arthur Monh was dismissed and Bowers
will have to appear for trial at the fall
term of court. He remain under his
former bond. J. W. Mann, who was alsu
included In the original Indictment, was
discharged a few days ago.
