The speculative world In wheat now et&ndi face to face with the new crop, which la being harvested and threshed In the southwest; and which Is now belnff Bold at Chicago, Omaha and smaller mar kets of the country .for the first half of July, as well as (or the month of July shipment from the home markets. A man who Is found In wheat as an every day speculator will back away from the actual grain not unlike a fractious coun try horse. Chicago tales amounted to 0,000 bushels yesterday, and In addition to this there were 6,000 bushels sold at Kansas City. This may be called the opening wedge of the movement of new wheat, and It will be seen to Increase from day to day until It reaches enormous proportions. There was. enough bull news of telling character to overbalance the transan tlons In the new grain yesterday, and among these Items were the cash sales of old wheat, of which 5(0,000 bushels were sold lri Chicago, and this Included 400,000 bushels of No. 2 hard' wheat, which about disposes of all the wheat of that kind held in this market. Cash wheat was He higher. nv l w ssn w ara nil on nn nv the principal longs In the Chicago mar ket, and the latter were disposing of only .a part of their holdings, and this for the simple reason that they were able to se cure good profits. There was a renowal of unfavorable crop reports from the state of Iowa as well as from Illinois. Cash corn, unchanged. The oats market was strong yesterday and the reporU of crop deterioration In the southwest overbalanced the talk of free Canadian oats. CHICAGO. June 6. Sensational drop damage reports from Kansas counties nitnerto believed sale gave the wneai market today an upward whirl. The close was firm at an advance of Ho to TiSlc net. Other leading staples all showed gains. Corn showed a sixteenth to He, oats Ho to HQaC and provisions a shade to 20c Six hundred thousand acres of wheat in Sallna, McPherson, Rice and Ells worth counties. Kansas, which have been credited with an average condition of 83 per cent were declared oy experts today to have receded to a condition of 60 per" cent Congestion In the July option here added to the fears of wheat shorts. There were signs that July contracts were largely neld by strong interests, and might be forced to a stiff -premium over September. On the other hand, St. Louis reported July there to be relatively weak, owing to the nearness of new Wheat and because of threatened insur ance difficulties. Profit taking led to a derided ' setback at one stage, but the Upward tendency of prloes was again in fun swing as tne session came to an And. Seaboard clearances of wheat and flour equalled 1.125.000 bushels. Primary receipts of wheat were 681.000 bushels; a year ago, 222,000 bushels, Corn received help chiefly from tho wheat bulge. Attempts by a speculative, leader to acquire a big line of Septem ber formed an additional bullish in fluence. Lightness of offerings allowed oats to climb unchecked, Provisions advanced mainly owing to ihurn unturn in the hog market. The bulk of the hogs sold at J8.2Vge.35, the latter price, being the highest paid. Bhlppers and speculators bought a fair shre Of the limited offerings.-hut refused to pay any toppy prices. After "a trading basis had been agreed on It did not take long to clear the yards, and all but a few ioaas naa Deen soia cy :ao. Receipts were' light even for a Friday, as there were only about fifty-nine cars or 4.160 head reported In. This Is the smallest Friday run since the third week In April, when only 3.800 head wero ret celved. The supply for the week to date foots up about 63,164 head, being over 8,000 larger than both last week and the same week a year ago. Bids on these last hogs were not o good and it was quite iaio nciore mey were an sola. Salesmen tried to get values up to their earlier level, but were unable to do so and the late sales worn finally mado at figures that looked to be about a nickel lower than prloes paid earlier In the day. MMttiiir rxjr mis xime oi me year clipped lambs were in good supply for a Friday, there being something like. 2,000 head on sale. There was a little better than a deck of aged sheep here and these were' mostly clipped ewes. The packers wero on tho scene at an early hour and their 'orders were large enough to take all the offerings on a basis any where from steady to 1015a higher. In the main tne movement was inK throughout and traders had left the barn long before the noon hour. There were two loads of 79-pound clipped lambs, a straight Out of which, averaging one pound heavier, sold at 37,60 yesterday, that brought 37,76' this morning. It was the best grades of light weight which brought the highest prices while the heavier and unfinished kinds moved at prices steady or a little better. Among the few sales of cnppea ewes was a small bunch selling as high as 35.60. As scarcely anything In the mutton lino Is coming, and as a very restricted demand for such offerings still prevails, it Is hard to establish quotations. Trade for 'the week has been satisfac tory to the selling side, as almost on every day offerings changed hands freely and prices have had a higher tendency. Recolpts have been very moderate, show. Ing a slight falling off from both one and two weeks ago and a year ago, and have consisted principally of clipped lambs. Junn ft Alt hntlirh nnt fiee from periods of unsettlement the' stock market todav showed a rilntlnnt improvement culminating in an exhibi tion or strength which lined many im portant shares well above the previous day's close. In certain quarters of the list, especially among the specialties, there was evidence of forced selling whloh brought about somp severe de clines. The leaders, however, were in much better demand. Opening prices were gnerally higher, but the early gains wero eliminated gradually, as the market was undermined by heavy selling of Atchison, the Petro leum shares Can and others. The move inent was accelerated by a sharp bear laid, in whloh a number of new low records for the long decline were reached. The market quickly recovered Its poise, however, and under the Influence of spir ited buying of the leaders rose steadily to the end of the session. A factor In. brlnmnE about the smart unturn late in the day. was the ap pearance of Washington advices stating there was iip ground for recent rumors circulated in Wall street concerning the altitude of the administration toward certain largo corporations.
