GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET
Wheat Proves the Weakest of All
on Grain List.
CORN HOLDERS ARE CAUTIOUS
Reports from Interior that There
Was an Incrense In Offering;
RrlnK" On n Conserva
tive Disposition.
OMAHA, May 15. 1913.
It was popular to put out short linos
of wheat yesterday and the matter of
price was a secondary consideration.
Those who believe wheat will sell to n
lower level attacked values yesterday
and there was heavy selling also' from
weary and discouraged holders. The en
tire grain list was lower, with wheat tho
weakest spot. Crop prospects were Im
proved In both the spring and winter
wheat areas by the heavy rains where
most needed. When It was seen there
were only twenty-five boatload of wheat
taken at Baltimore for export on the
declines established yesterday the aver
age long made up his mind that condi
tions were against him and he took to
his heels and rapidly changed his baso
from bull to the bear side. On the de
cline there were many stop-loss ordera
uncovered and for a time the pit was
chock full of wheut with the buylns
power smaller than any day during Urn
week. Those who are known In the trads
as professionals bought early because of
some additional war t(lk and they sold
out later on the general selling move
ment and at losses. The talent In wheal
was chopped to "mincemeat" for the
third time during the present week, suf
fering heavy losses.
A message attracting most attention
yesterday was received from Texas via
St. Louis in which bids were asked for
new wheat for the first half of July
loading. The message sold that the
foreigners were "invited" to make bids on
the wheat for the same delivery as speci
fied here, but .that there were no an
swers from Abroad, Cash wheat was. Ho
lower.
The holders of corn were cautious In
In making new consignments on the buy
ing side In a liberal way yesterday, be
cause of reports from the interior (hat
there was an Increase in offerings for
present as well as next month's ship
ments. On the break there was good
buying by shorts. Cash corn was un
changed. Texas is likely to cut a swath in the
oats market for the country, previous to
the offerings from the Oklahoma nnd
Kansas oats belts. Points In the "Lone
Star state were offering oats for the
first half of June shipment In all of the
southern markets at a price 2V4c below
that at which Illinois can possibly sell.
Cash oats were unchanged.
Clearances: Wheat and flour, 913,000
bushels; corn, 1.000 bushels; oats, none.
Liverpool close: Wheat, J,'.d lower;
com, d lower.
Primary wheat receipts were 645,000
bushels and shipments 676.000 bushels,
against reaolpts of 691,000 bushels nnd
shipments of 640,000 bushels last year.
Primary corn recelDt warn soaiwi hn.h.
els and shipments 271000 bushels, against
receipts of 439.000 bushels nnd shipments
of 305,000 bushels last year. Primary oats
receipts were 490,000 bushels and ship
ments 681,000 bushel, against receipts of
439,000 bushels and shipments of 626,000
bushels last year.

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS
Features of the Trndlnsr nnd Closing;
Price on Hoard of Trade,
CHICAGO, May 15. New investment
buying caused a rally today In whoat and
the market closed steady at prices rang
ing from lost night's level to Kc above.
Corn finished a shade off to Ho up, with
a gain or 'k&'.io; ana provisions dearer
by 7Wo to 20o.
In the opinion of many traders selling
had been considerably overdone. This
Judgment was confirmed about midday,
when purchasing became somewhat ag
gressive and shorts hurried to cover.
Clearances at the seaboard were heavy,
arrivals at leading terminals were light,
the season In Canada said to be two
weeka late and the Pacific coast states
distressed by radical deficiency of moist
ure. Previous to the upturn In the wheat
market, quotations had been depressed
owing to otatements that Russian crops
promised huge returns and because of ex
cellent weather and soil conditions east
of the Rockies. Bears, however, were un
nl.le to force more than slight reactions
after tho bulge set In.
Primary receipts of wheat todav were
645,000 bushels; lost year, 591,000 bushels;
clearances or wneat and nour eaualled
018.000 bushels.
Corn displayed firmness, the result of
country buying.
Oats strengthened on account of reports
that rains In Illinois and Indiana din nnf
extend as far as believed.
Speculators and foreigners have taken
to the buying side In provisions. Hog
receipts were meager.

CATTLE Cattle receipts were fair for
a Thursday, 116 cars being reported In,
and this leaves the total for the four
days this week nt 10,367 head, the small
est for a good many weeks back and
smaller oven than tho light run of a
year ago. The market as a. wholo was
very much lacking in lire ana snap.
Buyers seemed to want all the cattle
here, but they were not sufficiently
hungry for them to show any haste
wnatever in buying, on the contrary,
all buyers operated very deliberately
und tho trade was more or less of a drag
from start to finish. There were a few
right good yearling steer and heifers
and they sold very readily at good firm
prices, the best here reaching $8.76. On
the other hand the medium kinds of i'ghl
cattlo ilnd heavy cattlo wero nil very
slow. Some salosmen did not think that
they got out quite as well as yesterday.
The market generally speaking might be
quoted aa slow to about steady.
Cows and heifers did not show much
change, being steady as a general thing.
There were very . few stock cattle or
feedsrs In the yards and hardly enough
to try out the market, but the feeling
was no better than steady.

ROGB With another liberal run In sight
the market opened In good shape again
this morning, some sales made to ship
pers early looking to be a little stronger.
For the most part, however, the trade
was ust about the same as yesterday's,
and the prices paid by the packers
showed little or no change. The bulk of
the hogs sold at $3.208.25. ust the same
as on yesterday, and tops brought as
nign as is.raft. Doing jio nigner than
yesterday's high mark. The movement
was continuous and fairly active, and In
consequence everything had been sold In
fair season.
For the four days this week values
show very little change. Today's average
shows ust a shudo decline from the fig
ures paid last Saturday. There have been
no sharp advances made on any day this
week, but the market has shown enough
strength to recover nearly all of Tues
day's big decline- The bulk at the doss
of last week was $8.208.30, and while
thla Is a little stronger than today's bulx
the top today Is better than Saturday's
by 24a
The receipts were fairly liberal today,
about 132 cars, or 9.000 head, being re
ported in. For the four day the total
Is 40,690, over 2.000. larger than last weak,
but nearly 1.500 short of the supply on
the same clnj a year ago.

tmiCKP Arrivals of sheep and lambs nt
this point totaled 3,600 head, being a very
moderate supply for n Thursday, com
pared with one and two weeks ugo. The
general quality was not as good as of
late, as comparatively few really choice
offerings of hnndywclghts wero placed
on the market. Trade began nt a sea
sonable hour, and on the whole was fea
tured with a fair degree of activity, with
the closing business being n Utile quiet
as compared with the opening, Generally
speaking, Hales were made on n steady to
strong basis, and most of tha offerings
were disposed of In good season.
The majority of tho Mexican wnoled
lamb moved nt figures anywhere from
$8.00 to $8.50. Among tho lamb receipts
was a car of California spring lambs
that sold at $8.25. Shorn grades formed
about the same proportion of the re
ceipts as yesterday, nnd tho early sales
Included a load of such kinds at $7.00.
There were few, It any, nged sheep or
yearlings here. ,
