OMAHA, May 13, 1913. At this nartlcular time the talent in wheat, corn and oats refuse to permit Profits to get away from them, owing to the uncertain conditions surrounding the various markets. The one word, "un certain." may be aDnlled not only to the oats and corn situation, but to the wheat market as Well. In oats there were per sistent claims of crop damage in many sections of the great belt yesterday, and tl)e news received on corn was of sev eral kinds, and tome of It was against the bears. With tho exception of. claims of dry weather In many districts of the winter wneat ueit, with a promise oi deterioration later on. tho outlook Was just as rosy for an enormous yield of mat grain as at any time during this spring. Speculation enjoyed more breadth yes- teruay man in some days, because it attracted the attention of traders ,at out side markets, Including St Louis, and one of the larger speculators thero cov ered Quito a line of wheat In Chicago. Whether thero was a profit In this buy ing or not-it is unaDe to say. The average "Yankee" farmer has fully made up his mind that It is useless to hold a big surplus of wheat In his bins, as waa shown by the rocolpts at primary markets yesterday,- which exceeded one million bustiers, and which were double of those a yeartago. With the new crop 'harvested and moving the receipts at pri mary markets will doubtless brtak all records, and It will be up to the world at larte to take care of this wheat as rapidly as It Is Sold by growers. The cosh wheat market at Chicago was dull, but firm yesterday, with sales of 65,000 bushels to Interior millers. There were no export sales reported by the sea board, but Omaha sold 200,000 bushels of haid winter wheat to go to Minneapolis millers. A northwestern man in speaking of this sale said tho Minneapolis millers are badly In need of dry wheat for color ing as well as to absorb the moisture in the spring wheat Cash wheat was UQc lower. The corn stocks continue to decrease. The receipts are small and the shorts are the best buyers. Traders look for a good swing In the market and they favor the long side ori all setbacks. Cash corn was unchanged. The general trade In oats Is good. Shorts are the best buyers on unfavor able crop advices from Illinois and In diana. Cash oats were unchanged. Clearances were 8.000 bushels of corn. 1,000 bushels of oats and wheat and flour equal to 946,000 bushels. As compared with Friday's close Liver pool closed unchanged to W lower, on wheat and Md lowr nn rnin. Primary wheat recelnts were SS5.063 bushels and shipments were 911,000 bush- eis, against receipts last year of 4S0.W0 Dusneis ana shipments of 398,000 bushels. Primary corn receipts were 410,000 bush els and shipments were 305.000 bushels, against receipts last year of 755,000 bushels and shipments of 622,000 bushels. Primary oats receipts were 582,000 bush els and shipments were 633,000 bushels, against receipts last year of 480,000 bush els and shipments of 283,000 bushels. O in all ii Cash Prices. CHICAGO ORA1N AND PROVISIONS Fentnrea of the Trading- and Closing; Prices nn Board of Trade. CHICAGO. Mnv IS. Ahuonr. nf fnratirn demand combined today with bumper CTODS ahead denrlvrd whrat nf utr.nilh The close was weak, Uo to 1 cent under last night. Corn finished He to Ho down and oats off .d'iiC to Uc, but provisions unchanged to 25c higher. Dears ruled wneat from tho start The break in prices was only checked through extensive purchasing on the part of a few big houses. Greatest weakness de veloped after receipts of telegrams from the seaboard announcing that in addi tion to there being no export inquiry whatever resellers were aotlve abroad at two conts under the offers from hero. Rains In western Kansas were reported today as having supplied sufficient mois ture to carry the wheat crop to harvest Ideal weather elsewhere and splendid crop prospects bqth foreign1 and domestic, brought about selling pressure which In creased notably in tho last hour. Prim ary receipts of wheat today were SSJ.000 bushels: last year 40,000 bushols. Ex ports of wheat and flour today equalled 748.000 bushels. Decided lncroaso promised In country sales to arrive next week pulled down com prices. Reports from all quarters were favorable In regard to completion of planting. Illinois rains lowered oats. There was much unloading by rural spec ulators. Commission house buying said to bo for packers lifted the provision market. In the face of this lnflueno offerings be came notably scarce. LITTLE SELLING PRESSURE Speculation Reflects tho Reluctance of Traders to Commit Them elrea on Klthrr Side. NEW YORK. May 13. The drift of prices on the stock exchange was up ward today and while tho volume of busi ness remained small and the movement was nothing more than a alow, creeping advance, the olose of the session found not a few of the clearing shares a point or so higher than at the close yesterday, Speculation still reflected the reluctance of traders to commit themselves heavily on either side of the market. An Imnortant feature of the day a trad ing was the absence of selling pressure. Stocks were scarce and It was Inferred that the market .was again In a sold-out condition which made the tdohnlcal posi tion comparatively strong. Tiie Dorrow- ing demand for steel, in particular, waa unusually heavy and estimates of the short shipment In this speculative favor ite ran into large figures. Traders took advantage of conditions to force a rally at tho expense of the bears, whoso efforts to cover aiaeu in ptacina; biocks on a higher range. Resumption or traumg on tno Euro pean exchanges, alter a triple noutiay, was of Influence on this market. The effect of the more cheerful feeling In Ixmdon was reinforced by moderate duj lng for foreign aocount. Notwithstanding the firm undertone of tho market there waa some further sell Irir of stocks which have exhibited market heaviness recently. Several stocks. Including Pennsylvania ana jersey cen tral, touched new low records for tho movement. Canadian Paclflo wos sold coralstentlv. at one tlmo falling back more than two points. Trading In Consol- tdated gas was unusually active anu that stock was ono of the strong fea tures of tho list Bonds wero steady; total sales (par value), $1,260,000.
