CORN SHOWS NET PEI0E GAIN Future Quotations Are Making Stub born Climb, While the, Receipt. at Chlcastb Are Quite Small. OMAHA. April 4, 1913. Very small net gains were established in wheat prices at the close yesterday. There was a good action In the market both early and late in the session and the May price covered a range of nearly one cent for the day. There was the same bullish enthusiasm In the Chicago trade as has existed for a .wek c nore. So much wheat was offered through a group or large houses around top prices that sK? reTB.ctln of the last hour was natural. The Liverpool cable was disappointing to wheat buyers as the English market showed heaviness following the upturn in prices on this side of tho ocean. The preliminary estimate on Argentine ship ments was 7,200,000 bushels. There was no export demand in Chicago, but New York ciauueu ioriy ooauoaas or Manitoba wheat sold abroad. Chicago shipping sales were limited to 40,000 bushels. On the early advance yesterday buyers were encouraged by a display of strength at Minneapolis. This advance was due to dry weather crop complaints from western Kansas, reports of more or less flood damage to wheat acreage In Ohio and B. W. Snow's April crop esUmate placing the average condition lowor than was ex pected, at 87.6 per cent. Cash wheat was steady at Omaha, St Louis and Kansas City. Traders are Inclined to think that any change in the fine crop prospects will naturally be on the side of the buyer. The most active Interests in the Chicago trade are now friendly to the buying side of wheat on the depressions. Cash wheat was Ho higher. The last prices for corn futures yester day showed 94V4o net gain over Wednes day's quotations. The Chicago receipts were very light yesterday, and only 177 cars were received today. At all the primary markets cash prices ruled mostly one-half a cent higher. It was claimed that the country was buy ing July corn on the. wet weather scare. Cash corn was 1ilo higher. The leading Chicago shorts bought May oats on tho upturn yesterday, and the price went to 83 cents. The oats market Is trailing along after- wheat and; corn. Cash oats "were Mo' higher. Clearances: Wheat and flour, 448,000 bushels; corn.. 277,000 bushels; oats, 3,000 bushels. Liverpool close: Wheat, higher; corn, unchanged to ?id higher. Primary wheat receipts were 4S6.000 bushels and shipments 363,000 bushels, against receipts of 612,000 bushels and shipments of 127,000 bushels last year. Primary com receipts were 413,000 bush els and shipments, 346.000 bushels, against receipts of 199.000 bushels and shipments of 260,000 bushels last year. An outburst of speculative activity today brought stocks to thn highest point of tho year, cstal llshing sains of 10 to 15 points from the year's low figures for a number ot Im portant Issues. The relaxation of monoy markets, the approaching outlook for crops and evidences of excessive short Belling during tho recent decline wore pointed out as justifying activity on the long side ot the market. Corn ended the day a shade lower to tto higher, oats a shade to 9YtO higher and provisions Irregular, 7M9'10o lower to loo higher. Wheat was given a lift at the start on the blither cables and the complication ot the Balkan situation through the Ue- fiance or me powers Djr Montenegro. Speculative buying was based also on reports of export sales and the strength ot coarse grains. Fluctuations were nar row throughout the day, good buying t&klne nlftcit on each din. The tact Is receipts nave been vary light every day tins ween and tho total for the flvo days foots up a little under 12,000 head, being very much smaller than any week for a long time back. The offerings of cattle this morn- lno were very meager and there wore hardly enough of any one kind to make a very good test Of values. At the same time there waB a good demand and every thing In slclit. stock cattlo as well as killers, sold very readily at good, strong pnoes. For the week killing cattle are arouna 25a higher than tho close ot last week. While there was only a moderate Friday supply In sight, advices from other markets pointed towards a general reduction in values and local buyers made their first bids at a 6310c decline. Shippers and speculators did not take a, very attractive part in the trade and onjy a few loads found an outlet in thB direction. As a result of the limited butslde demand it looked as it packers would have things all their own way, but salesmen put up a determined fight and in the end the bulk ot the hogs moved at a decline of about & cents, The trade was very slow all the way through and considering the site of the receipts it was late in the day before the yards were cleared. It was largely an $8.75 market, with quite a sprinkling ot good lights above this figure and several loads ot heavy and mixed stuff below, a good many real good weighty hogs selling at $8.65. StSt 6IIEHP Comparatively llarht recelnU both locally and at other market points, was the cauio for further improvement in sheen and lamb values this mornlnaf. The run hero was in the barn at an early nour anu met wun a good active demand as the packers were apparently eager to get some killers. Lambs continue to mnko tin by far the greater Dart of th supply, nnd they were all disposed of at figures mostly a mmo metier than on Thursday. A couple of cars of ted Mex ican lambs, ono bunch averaging 82 pounds, the other 86 pounds, brought $8.85 as compared with $8.75, tho highest point reached yesterday. A two-load con signment ot tea westerns, weighing 80 Pounds, changed hands at $3.60 as ark-alnnt a top of $8.40 for such grades on the day previous, aomo sa-pouna cupped iambs sold up to $7.60, showing an advance of 26frS5o over yesterday's sales. Two loads of fed western ewes consti tuted the entire supply ot aged sheep oueniiKB, miu, us niiHiit ne expocteo, sold readily at tteO. No yearlings wer offered. On the whole the trade, both In sheen nnd lambs, for the week has been very satisfactory wun uio pac iters putting oa prices all that they took off last week ana then some, closing quotations on lambs and sheep are anywhere from 36e to DOo higher than prices prevailing at the oloso of last, week, and In spots the advance Is even more than that.
