CATTLE Receipts were moderate to
day, making a total for tho two days
this week 6,262 head, the smallest for a
number of weeks.
It was evident this morning that gen
eral conditions governing tho cattle
trade were Improved to some extent at
least. Buyers were all out ln the yards
In good season and Were all looking for
desirable fat cattle. As a rdsult of this
tho market on beef steers was actlvo at
an advance of lOo over yesterday's prices.
The big bulk of the receipts changed
hands ln good season,
Cows and heifers were also ln good de
mand nnd they were a little stronger
again, making the market for tho two
days this week 10fl5c higher than last
week's close.
- Stockers and feeders have been slow
sellers for several days back, but today
there was a little better Inquiry and tho
trade, If anything, a little more active,
prices remaining just about steady with
last week's close.

HOGS Today's receipts amounted to
about 244 cars or 17,000 head, the heaviest
since February, when over 18,000 were re
ported ln. The total for the two days,
34,331, is over 8,000 larger than for the
same days last week and about 31,000
larger than the corresponding period a
year ago.
There was a very generous supply in
sight this morning and local buyers
were ln no hurry to fill their orders.
Outside traders atarted the ball rolling
ty picaung up gooa iignt nogs at figures
that were around five cents higher, A
little later when tokra madn thiitr
flrat bids, they fell in .line with the
shippers and speculators and conse
quently tho majority ot the light hogs
In the yards sold at $.KJ8.t, a big
nickel higher than yesterday's prices on
the same grades. By the time buyers
had filled their early orders there wre
still a good many loads ot light weight
stuff unsold and offers made on these
were not nearly so good aa the figures
paid early, being in most cases little It
any better than Monday
Tho demand seotned to be confined en
tirely to the light hogs and heavy
butcher and packing grades were a drag
on the market all morning. In the ma
jority ot oases it was Impossible to git
a bid on this class ot stuff, and when a
salesman was lucky enough to get a bid
on a bunch ot heavies the figures offered
were around a nickel lower than yester
day, and up until a late hour a very
small percentage ot the heavier offer
ings had been started soaleward.
After forcing salesman to hold thetr
heavy hogs nearly all morning, buyers
finally started In clean them up, and ln
the end the most of them sold at figures
that were weak to 5c lower than yester
day. On the whole the marKet averaged
a shade higher, the big bulk ot the hogs
selling at $8.8038.90, with a sprinkling of
heavies under and quite a few loads ot
good lights above. Quite a few loads
brought as high as $8.9', Just So above
yesterday's top. The market was more
or less dull and draggy all morning, and
consequently It was after midday before
the last hogs were disposed ot.

8HEBI For the most part trade in
the lamb division was conducted on a
steady to strong basis, and while business
was active on the opening rounds the
mnvnment lost some of Its activity uward
the dose. At an early hour buyers were
going around apparently ?n urgent neea
of a few choice killers that would. dres
out well and picked up a few ot such ot.
ferlngs at good, strong figures. In one
or two Instances sales looked a little
higher. The lightweight lambs ot good
quality were In best demand, as a bunch
of prime Mexicans fed In Nebraska ana
weighing around 76 ponnds brought as
much us $8.60. Some 84-pound Mexican
lambs were good enough to bring $s.u.
The big end ot the lamb receipts con
sisted of fed westerns, the bulk otsuch
kinds selling at a range of $8.O0itt.2a.
No shorn offerings were included n the
supply, and practically nothing on the
feeding order came in from the western
states. As on yesterday vory lew lambs
changed hands on shearing account, and
what little trade was done was largely at
figures around $7.63.00.
Thoro was nothing ln the way ot agd
sheep or yearlings on sale excepting one
load ot Moxlcan wethers, which averaged
around 99 pounds and sold at $6.65. lhere
were really not enough sheep offered to
afford any accurate test as to valuos.
though the trade was generally regarded
ua nn n crrtnd. ktrnnir haals.
The total receipts were of fairly large
proportions for a Tuesday, as some 6,wu
head were reported In. This makes 18,968
head for the first two days ot ':hewoek.
