OMAHA, March 29. 1913.
j.V. .iTag n uu" market In wheat
j '.'!" Wle morning yesterday, with
aeciaeqiy good upturn of K cents for
uio late month nnd Hi cents for May
from the close Thursday. The Llverpoot
market did not show the weakness ox-
iripu louowing the late break In all
markets On thl lll. nt IK. n-..an Tlini...
ay" ?,Ma wnB very surprising because
- nullum' smpments were given very
large at 6.104,000 bushels and the total
supplies from south of the equator at
nearly 'double those of a year ago. Min
neapolis stocks increased 175,000 bushels
ior me weoK ending today. Duluth In
creasea wu.ooo bushels. There was no
casn Dusiness reported In Chicago and the
only export trade mentioned In reports
were 10,000 bushels at Winnipeg. There
was Borne bullish news with an "If" In
it ai times during the session.
one feature was the claim that the
floods lnlshi li'ductj the who.it ucrcape
on lowlands if tin plant' had begun to
grow. Another was that the two or
three cold spells over Texas and Okla
homa the last few days may have done
some Injury to th3 i-lant. Htrength was
shown at Minneapolis when the May
price went to 86o. This encouraged some
buying In Chicago and Omaha. The mar-
net appears to be without any decided
lenoency at the present, a little over
selling one day followed by a good rally
me next, uasn wneat was unchanged.
There Is a tired recline In the snecula
tlvo trade In corn futures. Two or three
times, yesterday the May prlco was ad
vanced close to 634c and July at one time
cioso to bic. The trade was extremely
auu ai tne time and the market was
helped by the bull turn In wheat. The
cash trade all over the country Is par
alyzed by the floods, which prevent bus!'
ness with the east. Sentiment In the
Chicago trade Is bearish, but there is a
hesitation about pressing the selling side
of the market because on each break of
any Importance bull leadership Is felt
ana sellers are oougea to cover with
losses. Cash corn was unchanged to Ho
lower.
Oats advanced about V4c vesterdnv.
Argentina shipments of oats for the week
are a little over 2,000,000 bushels. Ship
ping sales in Chicago were limited to
40,000 bushels. Cash oats were unchanged
to tsc lower.

decline, being generally 15iSf25o lower than
a week ago.
Stock rattle and feeders have not es
caped, but havo suffered In about the
samo proportion an killers. x
Flood conditions In the enst are still
very bud nnd it would bo a wirn policy
for cnttlemcnt to ship very lightly uHtll
tho eastern rallronds arc In condition to
do business. Nothing can bo gained by
shipping by this market, nn all markets
of tho country arc, its a matter of
course, suffering from the samo cause.

HOGS Receipts wero rather llheral this
morning, but advices from other markets
Wero of un encuuruitlnir iiiittirn and ins
feeling at tho locnl yards was hotter
trom the outset. ShliinerH and speculators
apparently had good sized orders and
they started out buying light and butcher
weight hogs at prices that wero any
where from strong to 5c higher. PacK
ers seemed equally eager for nnythlng
on the light order, but mixed and heavy
hogs were In very poor demand and prlcus
for this class of tttuff were at no time
better than steady. Towards the close
Prices 011 .all grades weakened nnd
dropped back Into about the same notches
as yesterday, with the heavy offering
possibly a little lower than at yesterday's
best time. From sturt to flnlBh buyers
discriminated against tho heavies and
only bought these grades under protest.
Bulk of tho hogs sold at $8.80i8.90, with
good lights up as high us $8.96. The
movement early wita fairly active, but it
eased off on the close nnd It wns well
along towards noon before the lust hos
wero disposed of.
The market hns been rather uneven ali
week nnd not much change lias been
noted In either direction. Heavies have
Just nbout held their own all week, while
lights nre fiom 6c to. In the case of
toppy stuff, ns much ns a dime higher
than at tho close of last week. On tho
whole, values nre a scant nickel higher
than last Saturday. Since the storms of
tho first of tho week the demnnd lion
been slacked off. Owing to the fact that
none of the eastern roads aro maintain
ing n service up to the average and
some of them nre almost entirely out ot
commission, packers are not taklig on
any surplus supply, and the demand for
live stock has suffered accordingly.
Toduy'H supply amounted to about 111
cars, or 8,000 head, carrying tho week'e
totnl mi to 59,618. This Is over 15,000 larger
than Inst week, 4,000 heavier than two
weeks ngo and almost 6,000 moro than
were received during tho corresponding
week last year.

SHEEP There were no new arrivals
today, therefore the trade remains nom
inally stendy with Friday.
The week-end finds values In general
on a shniplv lower hnsts with lambs and
wethers suffering tho most decline The
bulk of tho decent killing lamsb nro now
selling at a range of $8.10f8.50. as ngalnst
$8,401(8.76 at tho closo of last week or
largely SfictfOSo lower than a week ngo. As
usual of Into the most inquiry has been
for tho lighter grades of good quality,
though owing to n relative scarcity of
such kinds, the heavier ones sold to a
good ndvnntnge on some days. The Inmb
market wns well Bupported by feeder
buyers, who bought a larger percent
ngo of the offerings than usual both on
shearing and finishing account Strictly
feeding Inmhs nro bringing prices around
$7.6(Vl8oo, while shearers aro moving
mostly nt $S.00ff8.t5, both classes being
generally regarded as nbout stendy with
a week, ago.
Fnt ewes nnd wethers aro closing 15?(20c
lower, wethers showing most of tho de
cline. As a matter of fact the propor
tion of nged sheep nnd yearlings In tho
. receipts hns been very stnnll, es
peclnlly towards tho close of tho week
nnd It Is thought by a goodly number of
traders If anything like n normal supply
hnd shown up, values would have ex
perienced r greater reduction. Few, if
any yearlings at all, were Included In
tho Week's offerings, but they In sympa
thy with lambs would have shown a
similar slump In values.
It might bo ndded that because of re
cent snow storms, tornado and floods
and a consequent cutting off of traffic
on many of the rallronds, especially on
tho eastern lines, unnatural conditions
hnvo prevailed all the week. For that
reason the demand lias been greatly re
stricted and not much of any Improve
ment Is expected until trafflo has been
fully repaired.
The week's 1 ecelpts have been light, the
estimates calling for 29,500 head as
against 59,100 hood two weeks ago and
6i,900 head during the corresponding time
one yenr ngo.

PRATTLE OF THE YOUNGSTERS.
Pedestrian Here, why did you strike
that boy?
Urchin-He hit me first.
Pedestrian Suppose he did, don't you
know you should return good for evil?
Urchin-Well, an' didn't I ioak him
good?
"If you are a good boy, Willie," said
the Sunday school teacher, "you will go
to heaven some time and have a, gold
crown on your head."
"Not for me," replied the little fellow.
"Mamma got a gold crown on her tooth
tho other day, and It almost killed her."
"When Robert returned from Sunday
school ho said to Bister Virginia:
"Teacher told us. that tho hairs of our
heads ure numbered,"
Virginia wus silent for a moment, then
bIiu replied:
"Well, I'd like to have somebody tell
how many hairs are In mamma's awltch."
Little James, while at a neighbor's, was
given a pleco of bread and butter, and
politely said, "Thank you."
"That's right, James," said the lady.
"I like to hear little boys say 'thank
you,' "
"Well," rejoined James. "f you want
to hear me saw It again, you might put
Bomo Jam on it."
Little Ella's father was an eminent
author, and one day while he was at

In his study. Shortly a caller was ush

quired: "I suppose you assist your father In
entertaining bores?"
"Yes, sir," replied Ella gravely, "please
