Bluffs Firemen Do
Fine Work in Omaha
Council Bluffs firemen did excellent
service In Omaha's storm-torn district
Sunday night. In answer to the call for
help Chairman Groneweg of ths lire and
pollco board, instructed Chief Nicholson
to tnke the auto truck and get there In
tho least possible time. In Just twenty
ono minutes from the tlmo the big car
left tho houro ll had made a fire plug
connection at Decatur and Twenty-eighth
streets and suppressed a dangerous flro
that was starting there. Three separate
flros worn extinguished In the same local
ity beforo Chief Nicholson saw or heard
from any members of the Omaha depart
ment The flreB were critically located
nnd tho excellent work done In sup
pressing them undoubtedly prevented a
dangerous conflagration.
In seeking to reach other fires the
Bluffs firemen had to use their axes In
cutting a passage through the streets.
There was none o.f the Omaha firemen lr.
the neighborhood T.'here the Bluffs men
fortunately hit. Thty wore guided only
by the light of the Damon and searched
for tho nearest fire plugs. They worked
nearly three hours before they came Into
contact with any of the Omaha flro fight
ers, who were busily engaged In rightjng
elsewhere. In making the run from tho
Bluffs the speedometer showed a speed
as high as fifty miles an hour.
Old floors made just like new hard
