The action of bulls In corn will be
closely watched. Tho holdings In Chi
cago of tho cotton crowd aro believed to
bo quite large' and any attempt on their
port to get out will start a sharp break.
While on the other hand any attempt on
the part of shorts to cover would drive
prlcos skyward. The stocks of contract
corn at Chicago, aa woll as at other
points, Is abnormally small and shorts
cannot expect to. depend on delivering
tho grain In order to get out of tho hole.
Cash corn was 14c lower.
Oats aro more likely to sympathize
wlt,h the corn and possibly -with- wheat.
Cash oats was unchanged.
Clearances were 697,000 bushels of corn,
75,000 bushels of oata and wheat and corn
equal to 860,000 bushels.
Liverpool closed HSd lower on wheat
and ild higher on corn.
primary wheat receipts were 1,324,000
bushels and shipments were 394,000 bush
els. Primary corn receipts were 1,589,000
bushels and shipments won 870,000 bu.
Primary oats receipts wero 864,000
bushels and shipments wcae 496,000 bush
els. A year ago today was a holiday, there
fore no receipts and shipments for last
year.

point or more. Speculation was marked by
tho lassitude which has prevailed re
cently and at no time was tho list sub
jected to severe pressure. Tho day s
movement consisted or a siow, dragging
decline.
Tho market Situation wan somewhat
less favorable. Outbreak of tho revolu
tion In Mexico led to selling by tho
trading element of stocks of corporations
operating In tho southorly republic. Na
tional Hallways of Mexico first preferred
broko 5 points.
Another development which favored the
bears was tho tightening of money rates.
Call money climbed to 4 per cent, the
highest slnco tho first week of the year.
While there was no quotable change In
time money rates the tone was appreci
ably firmer. Foreign exchange rntes wore
easier. Such a change In the money
market was foreshadowed by tho poor
bank statement of Saturday, which
showed that tho surplus reserve had been
virtually out In two.

probability of further exports of old

money market hero.
The Steel corporation reported a de
crease of nearly 103,000 tons In unfilled
orders at the end of January, tho first
shrinkage slnco last March. As the orders

moment.

porter in, wnicn is slightly larger man

Tho market on boef steers opened a
little bit slow, but still It was apparont
that buyers wanted the cuttle and whon
they got down to business the offerings
moved quite freely with prices generally
steady with last wedk's close. It was
noticeable In many Instances that buyers
seemed to take hold of the cheaper cattle
moro freely than was the case with tho
higher priced kinds, still thero was a
fair demand for even the better cattle,
somo selling as high as $8.00, .
Cows and heifers moved In ubotlt the
samo n6tches as last wroK,. the market
bolng quoted steady. While the trade was
not. overly active cattle kept moving
towards the scales, and In tho end pratty
much everything was disposed of, and In
fair season.

ulators bought a few loads early ot values
that wero weak to 5o lower, but salesmen
remembered last week's Btrong closo and
wero Inclined to hold out for better
money. Some hogs sold early at figures
that were barely steady, but there wss
a good demand for averythlng except tho
big heavies and the majority ot the suleg
wero fully steady. The market on paper,
however, looks higher than It really was,
as tho quality of tho offerings was con
siderably better than at the close of
last week, and an was mentioned Satur
day there Is a smaller percentage of
hoavy weight stuff on sale. After real
trude was begun the markot was active
and a clearance was made In good season.
The closo wan strong and firlces were
better than at any other time. Bulk of the
supply sold at $7.65)7.75 and us high as
$7.50 was paid. There was moro range ot
weight at tho top this moridng, there
being some good butcher welghtN as well
as the lighter grades, at the high figure.
A moderate run showed up this morn
ing, about 101 cars or 7,000 head being re
ported In. This U about 2.000 head more
than wero here last Monday, but is
