posted traders expect nothing more than
a narrow trading affair until some new
features are Injected Into the situation
and Jar the market out of the rut. SI. J.
Dlffenb,auRh. one of the biggest wheat
handlers' of Kansas City, and who Is In
Chicago for a few days, says the ro
ports to Kansas nt houses, show 30 to
33 per cent of last year's Kansas brop

season restricted the movement, nnd now
the farmers arc disposed to hold for i
higtier prices. Cash wheat "itfl'ic higher.
There was quite n stir In corn circl s i
on the Board of Trade yesterday by tH I
cables received from Arsentlna. At Icust
three of the leading Chicago gialn houses
with correspondents In that country
ported corn ns damaged greatly by toe
long drawn out drouth. One cable saul
the drouth continues and It Is doing set -loos
damage. It places the exportable
surplus at 100.000.000 bushels, but says that
early rains would Increase the surplus to
12U,0OV,uw bushels. Reports on the export
business In this country were somewhat
conflicting. One leport, and which w.s
generally accepted bv the trade, said 335.
OOO bushels wero sold late Saturday and
yesterday, and that OOO.OOO bushels wet e
for shipment abroad.
One of the conservative handlers of
cash corn In tho Chicago market said
last night that the demand for this Rutin
was for deferred shipment only. Some
men In the corn trade who are closely
connected with conditions now existing
In the Interior, say that with the clean
ing up of country elevators In the com
belt, there will be a decided falling oft
In the offerings; that country men havo
sold their stocks at railway stations and
are not Included In the farm holdings,
and that they will keep a large part of
their grain at home for tho purpose of
feeding hogs, as this will btlng them
better returns than to ship the corn to
market. Cash corn Uc to c higher.

the bolter this morning. Opening bids
were generally strong to Jc higher, and
by the tlulo that trade was under way

was at these latter figures that the bulk
of the offerings sold.
A comparatively small part of the sup

the disposal of the packers. Good lights

but the heavy grades were no better
than a nlckul up and Wore, cxtiemely
slow to move at these figures. Asldo from
this slowness 011 tho ht-avles, tho trade
was active ftom stall to finish and
everything had changed hands in good
of tho sales ranged from $7.35 to
$7.45. with the long strings nt $7.35 and
$7 40, and several loads of good lights as
high as $7.50.
