The Omaha High school basket ball five Saturday night defeated the York High school quintet In one of tho fastest games seen on the local floor this year. Omaha started strong and took an early lead, which they ncld throtlgho.it tho entire game, although the York five" took a brace In the last half. They then held their opponents to an even scjra, but were unable to overcome the lead that Omaha obtained In tho first period. The Omaha team were considered to he the victors after the first few minutes of play, when the Omaha five played their opponents off their feet by thctr fast team work and perfect imsslng. Although outweighed considerably, the York basket bait five put up a game fight from the beginning to the end, always playing to their utmost, although they were unable to hold the purple and white quintet. York's ina6lllty to shoot baskets was tho visitors' worst falling, having the hardest of luck when they shot for a goal. Contrasting with this was the al most perfect basket tossing of the Otnana five, goals being tossed from all angles and places. Chiefly among the high school tojsers was Burkenroad, who ma3a over half the team's score by field Bonis alone and who made, together with eleven field goals, two foul goals, geetlng a to tal of 14 points out of 40. Burkenroad put up the best game of basket ball ever witnessed on the Omaha Young Men's Christian association basket ball floor and could shoot the baskets from any place within ten yards of tho' goals. For York, Haunts at center played the star game, getting more points than any of1 his teammates and duplicating some of Burkenroad's baskets. Hannis, althougn smaller than Hug'ies for Omaha, out Jumpeil his opponent at times and showed flashes of form that almost started the York team on a rally, but which was "il- most Immdiately broken up by the splen did team workof Hughes and Burken road, together with the guarding of Gardiner. Gardiner played tho best guarding game that has been seen for a long time"' on the "Y" floor, blocking passes and being successful In 'keeping hi forward from scoring any baskets. Hughes, Platz and Berry played a stellar game for Omahn, but which was hardly as good as that of Gardiner and Burkenroad. Tho team played such a fast game that at the end of the first half the score stood 21 to 9, In favor o't the locals. York, however, held during, the second haif, when three subs for Omaha were put in the game, wljlch somewhat broke " j Omaha's winning streak, thus, enabll"K the up-state lads to have a chance to re deem themselves. This they did by hold ing the locals to an evener score. In thy second period. Lineup and score: OMAHA HIGH. I YORK HIGH. Burk'nroad (C) It. I'M L.G.... Davidson ,'C) tierry .... ..L.1". There was little spectacular playing and few sensational shotp. Close guarding of both teams kept opposition from get ting away and pulling anything off. This game was the first that Minnesota was able to put down on tne credit side of tho ledger, It being their second game of the season. When the two teams lined up they appeared to be evenly matched as to weight, but the Maroon and Gold aggregation seemed to have It on the red and white, when It came to speed and 1 ability to negotiate baskets.
