OMAHA. Jan. 32, 1911
Wheat bulls were disposed to take a
cheerful view of the situation after the
close, and said thev believed the market
had given a good account of Itself during
me nay, although they did not belli vj
the closing iriiln .would hnvn been mi liirKu
had It not been for the strencth in corn.
The fact that tho seaboard reported iSD.V)
nusneis or hard winter wheat sold lor
export convinced a few that our prices
are not far out of line with markets
abroad, nnd that unless a radical change
comes over the foreign situation soon
buying on breaks Is the safest for the
lime being. Bears were confident of
their position and advocated sales on all
bulges from the present level, like that
of yesterday, Thoy wish to see a better
cash demand, smaller rrccltits and de
creasing stocks before they liellove It will
be tlliiii to take profits, although the tnoM
conservative bears advised caution In get
ting short on breaks around 9Jo, as there
has been fair absorption on the setback
of lato. The Chicago crowd were r'.
garded nB short at tho close yesterday.
Cash wheat unchanged.
Sentiment on the curb regarding the
com market was decidedly mixed yester
day. Bulls said It was no use trying to
depress prices, despite the heavy receipts,
as long as there Is a chance of the Ar
gentina crop being materially reuuca.

Wheat exhibited a flurry of firmness on
corn strength, but nt no time did tho

prlco were generally lower cables, easier
ocean freights, a poor cash demand, both
domestic and export, nnd heuvy primary
receipts. At 92V4c testing orders ifor Mny
wero reached, and the close, while under
yesterduy, wus He over tho bottom.
The strength of corn was Interrupted
only onco when pit traders, following the
early buying, sold to secure quick profits.
This was near tho close, nnd knocked

be 40,000.000 bushels under last year's. An
other expert declared thnj the crop was
too far advanced to suffer jnuch from
the heat.
Cash oats, aggregating 300,000 bushels

CATTLK Cattle lecelpts fell consider
ably short of expectations toduy, tho

as oh lust Wednesday.
This together with the encouraging
tone to advices from eastern markets In
fused considerable life and strength Into
tho trade and ns far as desirable beef
steers were concerned tho market was
active and itionger right from tho start.
Quality of tho offerings was nothing
extra and for thla rensoj there wcro
comparatively few, sales around $S.OO or
over, tho bulk of the fulr to good 1.000 to
I, 300-pound beeves selling from $1.35$?
1.75. In somo cases puckers hesitated to
pay tho stronger prices, but In tho main
tho movement was free and a good clear
anco was effected comparatively early
In tho forenoon.
Tho demand for cows and heifers con
tinurB to broaden nnd prices contlnuo to
advance all along the lino. Both local
packers and outside butchers had llboral
ordors to fill this morning and lost no
tlino In getting down to business at prices
that wero pretty closn to a dlmo higher
than yeAterday and lEO"25u higher than
the close of Inst week. In fact, tho gon
erul run of cowb nnd heifers aro selling
about an high nn at any tlmn diirlm; llm
season. Vcnl calves wero quotably firm
and there was a Very good outlet for
nuns, sings, etc., at fully recant quota
tions. Business lu Blockers and feeders was
rather quiet, uB tho recent advance lu
prices hits tended to check tho demand
somewhat. Yard traders all have quite a
good many cattle on hand and were ap
parently anxious to dlHposu of what they
had than to further Increase their hold
Ings. Strictly deslrnbln grades, both heavy
und light were quotably steady, but tho
onunary run or stock cattle and reeding
steers was slow and prices generally a
shado lower.
