The second week of the fair of the
churches opened In the rotunda of The
Bee building todny and again the tables
arts laden with the skillful handicraft of
woman. Not only are thero pieces of
fancywork of all kinds, but most of the.
hurcli societies have a portion of the
tables covered with canned fruits, mince
meat, pickles, Jams and Jellies and
Christmas candles.
The four churches which will occupy the
spaco In the rotunda of The Bee building
nt the fair of the churches Monday and
today are Hans com Park Methodist
Episcopal, Dlctz Memorial, Oak Street
Methodist and Hirst Memorial.
Tlw Woman's society of the Hanscom
Park Methodist Hpti-copal church has
the tables which surround tho fountain
and nil kinds of pretty articles are
shown. At the tables arc Mrs. K. M.
Reynolds, Dr. Jennie Colfas and Mrs. F.
M. Pond. Tho sale of aprons Is In ohargo
of Mrs. G. W. Street. Mrs. W. II. Peake
and Mrs. M. 1.. Stone, who Is also In
charge of tho entire sale of the church.
There Is a table devoted to home cooking
and presiding over this sale Is Mrs. J.
O Waggoner, Mrs. 8. E. Soloman and
Mrs. H. T. Shearer. Many of the young
women of tho church havo made candy
for this sale and at this table aro Mrs.
Paul Havens, Mrs. Arthur Nlles, Miss
Olive Brain and Miss Mildred McMur

Tho tables at the left of the entrance
to the rotunda are used by Hirst Memor
ial church. One Interesting table, covorcd
with wearing apparel for little girls, from
tho dainty little fancy white apron and
dress to tho more serviceable gingham
dress. Many of these dresses havo been
madu by hand and tho prices aro most
reasonable. Among tho women who are
assisting in the Christmas bazaar of this
church are Mrs. W. L. Itlce, Mrs. A. J.
Beall. Mrs. J. A. Hall, Mrs. Q. W. TIffcy,
Mrs. N. C. Latham, Mrs. C. A. Emmlns

men's Aid society of tho Oak Street
Methodist Episcopal church, and all sorts
of pretty articles, suitable for Christmas
gifts, nro to bo found there. Mrs. I. M.
Hart, who Is in charge of tho bazaar, Is
assisted by Mrs. Hobcrt Lang, Mrs. W. II.
Sturgeon, Mrs. C. M. Williamson, Mrs.
H. A. Durnall, Mrs. A. C. Terrell and
Miss Blanche Young.
Tho Dlctz Memorial church has one of
the prettiest of the tables which havo
been seen at the fair. Not only are tho
tables heavy with fancy articles, but the
home made mince pies, home made cook
Jcs and Chrotmos candles aro most
tempting.

Market is Glutted
With Xmas Trees
Commission dealers, anticipating an Im
mense trade, laid In a supply of more
than -10,000 Christmas trees, nil young
evergreens from Minnesota, Wisconsin
and Michigan. To these dealers the con- j
uiiueu warm weatner nas neon u great
disappointment, and with Christmas llt
tlo more than a week away, they still
have- tho most of the trees on hand.
Many Christinas trees have been sent
to the country, but the demand has been
nothing like holiday seasons of the past,
and bo far as tho city trade Is concerned,
it is said that It Is much below the nor
mal In the tree line.
STATE IS AT WORK ON ITS
NEW EXPERIMENTAL FARM
H. B. Howard of the Burllnton's land
department Is back from Curtis, Neb.,
where he spent several days locating
some parties who had bought land.
Mr. Howard reports work progressing
well on the Improvements being made on
the state experiment farm, where a
branch of the university Is established
and where buildings will be erected as
soon as the legislative appropriation Is
made and Is available. Tho big 115,000
cow barn Is about completed.

CITY OFFICIAL NOT ABLE
TO COLLECT HIS SALARY

occupation taxes this year has deprived
the asMstant Inspector of weights and
measures of his salary for the last Uiree
months. An attempt Is being made to
draft a new ordinance that will meet
with the approval or the small and large
coal dealers, but nothing has yet been
proposed that will be accepted by both
hides. In the meantime the Inspector of
weights and measures Is unable to cpl
Uet the graduated occupation tax without
recourse to the courts.
Storage Men Deny
Butter is Held Here
to Any Great Extent
Omaha cold storage houses say thev
are not In on the alleged butter corner
which Is said to have been discovered by
government secret service agents In Chi
cago. While Omaha Is tho largest butter
manufacturing and distributing center In
the world, the cold storage men declare
they have not the facilities here to store
tho commodity to such an extent that
It could be culled a corner.
One atoragn man said this morning that
he doubted If there is as much as lOO.Crt)
pounds of butter In storage In Omaha. It
Is being shipped out as fast as made,
ho said. Omaha consumers only use 20,00
pounds a woek and the remainder of the
output Is sent to all parts of the world.
Some of tho butter In storage In Chicago
Is from Omsha. Tho demand for butter
now Is very IlKht, Omaha storage men
further declare. While seven cars aro
shipped from Omaha dally during the
months of June and July there are now
being shipped about two cars dally. This
is said to be natural, though, because of
the season.
In spite of tho fact that It was given
out from Elgin that no more butter quo
tations were to be sent out, the quota
tions were mode a usual Monday, butter
being quoted firm at M cents. This quo
tation will control tho price In Omaha
for tho next week, as the cerameries will
soli for 2 cents over tho Elgin price This
Is a drop of 1 cent from last week.
Funeral of Geo, Krug
is Held Yesterday
Funeral services were held Monday at
9:50 o'clock nt tlio church of Bt. Mary
Magdalen, Seventeenth and Dodgo streets,
for tho late George Krug, who died Friday
at. his homo of apoplexy. Tho services,
which were private, only members of the
family and Intimate friends being nd-'
mltted, consisted of requiem mass con
ducted by Father Bernard Blnno nnd tho
sermon preached by Father Whalcn.
Henry Busch of the Anheuser-Busch
Brewing company, with whom the do
ceased was vory Intimate, was present
at the sorvlccs, making tho trip from St.
Louis especially for this purpose.
Delegates from the Elks and German
organizations of which Mr. Krug was n
member were present at tho church und
accompanied the body to the gravo In
Holy Sepulchcr cemetery. Tho deceased
Is survived by two cons, Oscar and Ed
mund of St, Louis, and ono daughter, 't
Mrs. Brown of Washington, D. C, all of
whom were present.
