Profit out of grain or provisions.
The average bull In wheat, the man
who has Invested his money on the long

points .to tho fact that accumulation of

abnormally small totals. The wheat ha

CHICAGO, Doc. 9. Wheat sold today
at the lowest price this season. A huge
Increase in the United States visible mip
plv total had much to do with weak
ening the market. The close was heavy
at a net decline of 5i'ic to IUQIThc
Corn finished ?ac to 10Ui c down, oata
off ',wc to Uffftio and provisions with a
loss f 5e to 2f cents
Government figures on the wheat crop
Proved higher than the crowd expected
both as' to condition nnd acieago but
came too late to affect the market. Pri
vate estimates current during the ses
sion, although against the IiiiIIh were
much less so than the official report.
Argentine crop reports of a flattering
character gave the wheat market n down
ward Impulse from the start.
Largo receipts tended further to dls
courago holders, the movement continu
ing groatlv in excess of last year's weak
ness In tho stock market acted also as
n depressing Influence.
Leading houses supported wheat at 90
cents and later at SflH cents for May,
buying moro than 1.000,000 Vushels. It
was. however, not until the price touched
89 cents, which had started at 90" , cents
that the decline could be checked, Vs
under any previous record for the pres
ent crop. Latest sales at S-lWie
showed a net loss of lU5'llc.
Enlarged offerings from Iowa and Il
linois weighed corn down, especially 'he
December option. Colder weather fu
vored marketing. May ranged between
4S and 4M4c. closing wcik. i ofr at
49!04Sc. Cash grades were slow. No.
2 yellow was quoted at 4x"jlii7',4c for
carlot.".
Statements that Argentina wan under,
selling the United States counted ngaliiht
the bulls In oats. Outside limits reached
by May were 324fi32Hc and 32c with
the close ie net lower at 32Hc
Provisions dropped notwithstanding that
hog receipts were less than expected.
The larger packers were Helling, nnd
there were reports of lessened shipping
trade. January pork, which led the de
cline, suffered a fall of J5 cents.

NEW YORK. Dee 9 lowest prices
of stock In all classes for several
months were recorded todav. Tho selling
movement, which was checked tempo
rarily lalo last week, was resumed to
day with Increased vigor and some of
the severest looses of the present de
cline wero Inflicted Union Pacific sold
down 5 points to 162i. Reading IV to
IftiW. fteel. iU to 05i. Amalgnmnted 3si
to ViK and American Smelting 3st tu
tl)l. Mimes of 2 to 3 points were re
corded through n long list of other
stock from alt ouarterK nf thn mar
ket. At tho close when quotations wore
nt the lowest, tho average price for
two,nty-flvp leading Issues, Including fif
teen roilrouOM anil ten Induatrlafci, had
fallen to within 3 polntii of the low
nvernge of tho year, which was readied
In February.
During tho morning tho market wan
quiet, with few Important changes.
Traders did not cam to take a decided
position because of, tho chance of a de
cision today by tho United State su
premo court In ono of tho Important
caBei pending. Aj soon a word wus
received from AVnhlngton that none of
these decisions would be rendered toilio"
heavy selling began. Tho low priced
specialties whlrh figured In last week's
break wero first attacked and save way
I easily. The movement spread not only
to tho leading speculative Issues but to
high priced Investment stocks. Such a
large dawi of these Issues were In
cluded In tho break that It was appar
ent extensive liquidation w In prog
ress Brokers said liquidation was
chiefly on tho part of ol of town hokl
crs of Becurlues, while local traders
were chiefly resiMiislhle for tho hcaT
short selling. No concerted effort was
made to support the list tvnd tho so
ciilleil "big Interests." apparently were
not averse to a further drop.
There wos sonio further scaling of
loans by financial Institutions which
may havo been a factor in tho day's
operations. Although last weok's bank
statement ehownd that the dflolt had
been eliminated. th margin of surplus
reserve, is narrow enough to explain
somo of tho other reductions In tho loan
account.
Tho copper producers' monthly state
ment showed the expected Inereaao in
stocks on hand, a gain In exports hav
ing been morn than offset by tho shrink
age In domestic consumption.
Thn bond market was very weak, with
declines in somo nctlve Issues running
from 1 to 1 point. .Total sales par
vnluo. $1,970.00). United States bonds un
changed on call.

HOflH necrlpts of hogs dmppod a
tie thlM morning In comparison with last
Monday and two weeks ago, hut were a
little larger than on tho corresponding
days a year ugo. With only a modorato
supply of hogs In sight nnd till buyers
having god demands trado started off
esrlv with an advance of Mflue. Quite a
few' offurlngs were disposed of In that
wav to tho speculators. For a short time
there appeared to on some iiin rnanuy
as to what the packing Interests wore
going to do. However, sellers were up-
HinUitc and expected the packer buyeis
to take up the trade, nt least on tho
same basis as opening prices. To make
a miio thing of it the solium held fast
and In tho end got prices for thn rest of
the offorlngs fully aa good and In most
oases better than during the earlier
trade The packing drovo wero put up
largely around 17.C0 or possibly a shade
helter.ithus making tho snles to the pack
ers generally a dlmo higher than the
general market at the closo of lust week.
Taking all tho sales Into consideration the
bulk moved at a range of Jl.fiW.W, as
against $7.!?7.) on Saturday. Two loada
sold up to 17.76, top for tho day and a
dime above tho highest prlco op Satur
day. The weakest point of the day ww
at or near the close, values showing
good part of the early advance lost. A
generally active movement was a feature
of the market and mostly everything
was dared In good eeaeon.

HUEF.P-Tho receipts of sheep and
