OMAHA, Dec. 2. 1912.
There Is little doubt that the statistics

greatly favor the bears. The visible sup

be Increases In the stocks at nearly atl
the principal markets of the country" U
ls said by those who have watched condl
t on most closely that the deliveries on
the December contracts are from 1.000.0U)
to 2,000,000 busheiB. The tormcr figure,
however, are selected as nearer the mark
than tno latter. World's shipments will
be somewhat smaller, and a decrease In
the amount on ocean passage Is looked
for and While thpn two llmi mnv h
said to favor the bulls they are of little
consequence at tho present While tho
recent rains In Argentina may possibly
have caused some losses to the new wheat
crop, the yield there will be a bumper
affair, and advices say that the quality
"in 00 excellent. The harvesting or
wheat will commence In that far ewav
country within a few days and. It will be
nushod as rapidly as possible until the
harvesters reach the southern limits ot
the wheat belt. Steamers are said to be
on their way to Argentina, having been
assured cargoes of wheat, and. in addi
tion to these supplies. Australia will soon
ptcome a larger shipper. These condl
tlons point to ton fact that the United
States and Canada, both of which have
liberal wheat stocks, will have to meet
the figures of Argentina in order to dis
pose of grain now on hand and for which

NTJW YORK, Dec. 2. The supreme
court's decision In the Harriman merger
Base upset the stock market today after
a listless morning session. The announce
ment from Washington was followed by
an outburst of selling, with Vnlon raelflc
as the .speclal object of attack. There
were lance sales of Southern Pacific ns
well, and virtually nil of the favorable
Stocks, lncludlne- Industrials n well n.t
railroads, shared In tho movement Vnlon
Pacific broke 20 points, Southern Pacific
2 and elladlng. Bteol, Amalgamated and
other prominent shared a lesser amount.
The market met with prompt snnport
at the lower level and prices quickly ral
lied. Tlie decision was unexpected to
many persons and the first Impulse -was
to sell, but on second thought there was
a decided change In sentiment. Losses
were largely made up, and tho Harriman
Issues scored their best figures for the
day. Vnlon Pacific preferred was bought
heavily and at ono tlmo Bhowcd i guln
or 6ft.
mo upward movement was attributed
to speculative buying on th theory that
tho court's ruling would .necessitate a
distribution of Vnlon Paclflo holdings of
southern Pacific. Some of the Irorrlmnn
bond Issues also advanced. In tho belief
that their retirement might be mndo
necessary as a rrt of the adjustment
which must now bo made. Southern Pa
elfin collateral fours at one period reg-
isterea a gain or 6H points and oregtm
Short Linn fours a cnln of 3 points. Tho
court's decision, however, opened up so
many possibilities for speculation as to
the effects of tho readjustment thnt tho
trading element was confused and move
ments of securities were erratic Before
tho close the market became heavy again.
ino enect 01 tne unravorunie bank
statement of last Saturday was shown
In the continued (tension In tho moneV
market. Call loans rose steadily from an
opening at 10 per cent until 1 per cent
was touched. Late In the day the rates
fell, back to 6 per cent. Engagement of
a' large sham of the South African gold
offered In London today by New York
bankers did not serve to quiet nppre
ihvnslons an to the future course of
money rates. Stocks were unaffected by
monnx conditions, prices having held
firm until the market was upset by nn
nouncement of tho Harriman decision.
The chief Influence of high money rates
was to reduce speculation on the Stock
exe,hango to a minimum.
Some of- the specialties: developed
marked strength In tho early part of tho
day. Rubber roso to the high point
touched In the movement last April and
Tobnoco Issues were buoyant
Aside from tho Harriman Issues tho
general bond market was firm, although
there wn a shading on -values Id a few
Isolated cases. Total sales, par value,
$2,500,000. Vnlted States bonds wero un
changed on call.

Plentiful today and tho purchases of gold
for America did not 'affect discount rates,
which were easier on the continental out

a strong opening on the stock exchange,

when speculative la rued eased off and

CATTI,K Cattlq receipts wero very lib
eral at this point and other markets also
wore reporting targe runs. To make an
other comparison,! receipts today were
about 3,000 head larger than on Monday
of last week and almost double tho re
ceipts of a year ago. With receipts large
locally no well as at other marunt points
sulfumtn were Inclined to go slowly and
reel their wuv beforo buying any great
number of cattle A a result ot this
tile market on all kinds of oattln was
lacking In activity and the morning was
well advanced before any very great
number had chanced hands.
Ther wa ft good demand fttr beef ateera
this morning and anything In the way of
detijrabje wesUrna commanded good,
steaqy prices. On the other hand un
favorable advices from other selling
points rendered tha mafket tin comteds
slow and weak and ns much as 10a lower
In soma eases. The quality of the- cattlo
was on an average not very good, which
fact contributed somewhat to tha gen
eral dullness of tha trade.
Cows and 'heifers were slow' In getting
started and while buyers nvldontly wanted
thorn they wero Inolulnnd to await later
advices from other Belling points before
filling orders. Thus thn trade dragged
along during tho greater part ot the foro
noon, but still tho big bulk changed
hand In fair season, Trices ranged any
where from weak to as much as 10c
lowrN
Thare wo a good demand for stock
cattle and fowlers and buyers of that
Kind wero out rtiriy In tho morning, with
tha result that the market was reonouubly
active at prions right around steady with
lust week. Ah a matter of fact some ot
the most desirable cattlo were stronger.
If anything.
