Ion which wrecked the dry starch house
of the Corn Product company's plant this
afternoon killed between three ami twelv
workmen, Injurod twerty-aeven others,
several of whom will die, and caued
about 1100,0(10 property damage.
Edward Conrad, deputy In the Lake
county coroner's office was authority
for the statement that twelve .men at
least hud been trapped In the wrecked
building.

plant. ull that only three men had been
killed and twenty-seven injured by the
'explosion. Only thirty men had business
1 in the starch house at the tlmo of th
explosion, said Mr. Kbert.
Nearly all of the workmen killed or
Injured wore of Polish, IJthuantan or
1 Austrian nationality, and they -were on
the company's p.iy roll by numbers and
not by names.
The explosion tore the frame top house
from the five-story bulWlng and, scat
tered blta of it tor fifty yards In all dl
recttons. The body of one man killed
was blown across the Chicago & North'
