and with the cutting of that crop near at

Ca.h wl'at lc lower to Uio higher.
The receipts of corn on the present
crop have been disappointing to every
body n the trnde. According to the
larger cash handlers of grain In the Chi
cago market, tho smaller receipts have
been caused by the refusal of cash corn
ers to take hold In their usual liberal
manner. Advices received at Chicago
during several days of last week say that
in sections of Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska
corn is not turning out an well an was
generally expected and that the general
quality Is not as good as was looked for
a iew weexs ago. Cash corn 2c lower.

CJ1ICACO, Nov. 23. Excited returns in
wheat quotations 111 account' of uncon

Though principal owners of wheat here
were active in telling on bulges, specu

tho most part Ignored and the. market

Top figures of tho day In wheat came

NEW YORK JTOCK MARKET
Twelve Per Cent Rate for Call
Money Causes Unsettlement.
LONDON SELLING A FACTOR
Aimrd of Arbitration ltonrtl to
Hnstern Ilnltrrny KnRlurera lte
flectc.l In Slock MnrUet
1.1st I.ntcr Sella Off.
NEW' YORK, Nov. 25.-A 12 per cent
rate for call money, tho highest since
January 3, 1910. caused somo tlnsettlo
ment In stocks today. Tho advance was
ascribed to a variety of causes, Includ
ing the world-wide tightening of mone
tary conditions, the Balkan wnr and tho
strain upon domestic reserves.
Some local banks colled loans, but this
move was not general. Tho high. rate,
yielded slightly when one of tho most
prominent Institutions offered several
millions' at 6 per cent, In keeping with
Its fixed policy, but when this supply
was exhausted tho quotation mounted
again to the hlch flirure. Before the
close ths rate again declined. Last
week's bank statement disclosed an ex
cess of loans over deposits ut almost
J2Oa.006.O00 and this ract was taken Into
account In today's flurry. The failure
of American bankers to bid for any port
of tho South African gold received In
London today Is thought to be the reault
ot an understanding by local financiers
and their European confreres.
London selling In this market waa an
other factor which contributed to the
depression ot stocks. It was estimated
that London sold 20,000 to 30.000 shares
hero and' that 7,000 wero sold on direct
cable from the continent.
Tho award of the arbitration board to
the eastern railway engineers was re
flected In the stock market, railroad
shares being depressed In tho early part
of tho day to a more marked' extent than
the Industrials. Litter In tho session
when tho flurry in money rates Induced
some liquidation the whole list sold oft
and prices fell from 1 to 3 points below
Saturday's close.
The bond market showed heaviness In
sympathy with the pressure on stocks.
Total sales par value, Jl, 350,000. United
States bonds were, unchanged on call.
Number of sales and leaning quotation
on stocks were as follows!

CATTLE Receipts of cattle were small
this morning, being less than half what
thoy wero on Monday ot last week and
the smallest ot any wcok so fur this
Reason excepting the day before election.
They wero, howover, about on a Par
with tho run a year ago.
With moderate receipts nnd with puck
prs apparently wanting the. cattlo tho
market on beef steers opened very fa
vorably for the sellers this morning. Tho
trade was quite active and prices around
10a higher than last week's close. Tho
quality of the cattlo on nn avorage was
not very good, but, what there were, sold
freely.
Cows and heifers wero also In very
good dtmand and anything that looked
good to the buyers sold freely at prices
that were fully 10c higher than last
week. Hero and thero It wait possible to
find a salesman who thought that he se
cured even more than 10c advance. The
market,- to-say th least, was in a good,
healthy and entirely satisfactory condi
tion, -m viewed rrom a seller's stand
point. Feeder buyorn were all anxious for sup
plies, haying cleaned up, about every
thing on hand last vSck. The result was
free buying with prices showing about
the name advance as killers, that la lOo
higher than last week.
