'Western Stntrs.
OMAHA. Nov. 4, 1912.
When the markets closed Friday nine
out of ten members of the local trade
were bearish In their views on wheat.
What decline has been rstabllshed has
neither checked the movement or ln
crased the shipping demand, and prices
are far from being at a lovel to Invite
export business. Tho Argentina crop Is
a factor and Is coming on very fast un
der favorable conditions. After a long
period of activity tho flour trade Is a
little sluggish at this time. The trade is
In a position where it will respond "quickly
to anything Important In the way of bull
news, but there Is nothing of tho kind In
sight unless some complications arise In
Europe over the attempted settlement of
the Turk.sh war. Cash wheat UjSc lower.
The latest private reports by good au
thorities on the corn yields over the big
shipping states are most flattering. Thu
traae is now looking for nn oiriciai re
port this month even more bearish than
that given out for October. New corn
Is bcg.nning to move quite freely. Tho
acute situation in old cash corn Is largely
eliminated as a market factor. Brokers
claim there Is a big concentrated' holding
In December corn, which, In alt proba
bility, 'cannot bo suppl.ed by the new
crop movement. Tho action tor tho De
cember option will depend very greatly
on the character of the weather for
the next thirty days. Leaving this ele
ment out of consideration, the feeling In
the trado Is bearish. Cosh corn unchanged
to 2c lower.
Oats receipts contlnuo heavy, but no
large accumulation In stocks is taking
piace. The big crop precludes any largo
volume of speculative buying and traders
expect prices to gradually sag to a lowel
level. Cash oats were Ho lower.
There will bo no market in Chicago or
Omaha, Tuesday, November 6, on ac
count of election.
Clearance were: Wheat and flour equal
to 944,000 bu.; corn, 8,000 bu.; oats, 148,000

Primary corn receipts were 727,000 bu.

CALL MONEY BATES DECREASE
Some Stocks Whose Affairs Are

Record Severe Losses Which
Are I-nrgrlr Recovered.
NEW YORK, Nov. 4. Extreme dullness
and Irregularity marked tho course of
operations on tho stock exchango today.
For the greater port of the session trndlnf,
was almost at a satmlstlll. Some stookr,
notably St. Paul and the Hill Issues, were
moderately strong at tho outset, while
most other leaders, railways and Indus
trials, were heavy when not absolutely
weak. Certain of tho specialties, such
as American Beet Sugar, American Sugar
and American Woolen, whose affairs are
largely dependent upon tho tariff, rec
orded severe losses, which wcro partly
regained before the close.' American can
and tho Tobacco rroup. as wll as some
of the minor stocks, reflected varying do-
grees or pressure.
In the tlntO hour, when call money,
which had opened at 7 per cent, fell to 6
and Inter 34 per cent, tho entire list
moved forward until most losses were
moro than recovered. Lehigh Valley.
St. Paul. Union Pacific nnd Steel led the
rise, while Great Northern and Northern
Pacific added to Oarly gains, and Amalga
mated, which hod been among the heav
iest of tho leaders, also recovered. There
was soma Blinding toward the close, bnt
the undertone continued firm.
Canadian Pnclfla was weakest of tho
Americans In London, where the market
Inclined to sag over renewed complica
tions In th Balkan situation.
While coll money cased appreciably.
tlmo lonns hardened. 6 per cent being bid
for tho longer maturities. All Indica
tions point to a firmer tendency for the
balance of tho year.
Tha bond market wns narrow nnd li-
regular. Total sales, par value, aggre
gates 3.ii,wm. united States 2n declined
4 per acnt and tho registered 3s 4 per

CATTLIO-Rocelpts of cattlo were th

reported. At tho tamo tlmo advices from
other market points Indicated light he

run Is slacking up or that shippers wore
staying homo to vote.
Thero was a reasonably good demand
for beef steers and such cattlo as found
favor In buyers' nyes commanded prices
that wora generally lOo higher than last
week's close. On the other hand common
and Inferior stuff may not have been any
iinro uiuii Btenay,
Cows and helferi wero also In good de
mand and they commanded prices that
wero anywhero from strong to 10a higher,
The big bulk of tho butcher stock was
cleaned up In very fair season In the
morning.
Stock cutlo nnd feeders, owning to the
DMleruto attendance of country buyors,
wore no more than steady with last
week. Possibly tho feeling on the best
grades may have been a llttlo strongor,
but us u rula tho market could hardly
bo quoted as showing any material
chaugu from lost week's close.

HOQB Speculators set the paco this
morning and It was a lively ono. The
market opened earlier titan usual and by
d o'clock It was practically over with
so far as hogs In first hands were con
cerned. (Speculators bought pretty much
everything at prices that wore 64rl0c,
most 10c, higher. A large proportion of
all tho hogs sold at 17.807.85, as against
87.70(07.80 on Saturday. The top waa
17.90, as against S7.&5 at the close of last
week.
While receipts everywhere were small
and conditions favorable for an advance.
It was very evident that packers were not
disposed to boost the market any morn
than was absolutely necessary, hence they
held back, In most cases allowing the
speculators to buy tho hogs at the ad
vance noted.
This Is the fourth day In succession that
hogs have shown an advance. Tho low
point last week was touched on Wednes
day, when hogs on this market sold on
an avetage of 17,66, so that after allow
ing for Improvement In the market to
day prices are around 2630o higher than
last week's low day.

HH15KP Receipts this mornln.t wero
Very light for a Monday, being the small
est for a number of weeks and only
about half as large as on the correspond
ing day Inst year. Other market points
wero nlso very moderately supplied, the
decreaso In receipts being duo either to
a dcareaso In the western run natural at
this season of tho year or possibly to the
fact that shippers wore staying homo on
account of tho election.
Today's arrlvnla consisted very largely
of feeders, there being only a modcrat
showing of killers. As thcro was n goo i
demand on the part of local packers fot
lambs and uwes sold qulto roadlly nt
prices that wero around 26c higher than
last week On pnpor sales would real",
show more advance than that, but the
quality today was pretty good. Wosten
lambs sold up as high as t7.15, with owes
at t4.W Thero wcro no fat wethers o.
yearlings, at least none of any consc
quence, to mnko a test of tho market on
that kind of stock
Tho attendance of feeder buyers from
the country Is nover very large on u .
Monday morning and It was only natural
to expect n smaller .number than usunl
today on account of election. Still there
was a fair demand for feeders. The
trade, however, opened slow nnd dull
with the feeling about steady. Lstcr on .
the market took on a little moro llfo ami
thero was a somewhat stronger feeling,
pretty much everything being cleaned up
In reasonable season.
