clal.) The Cornell college foot ball season
Is opening with a sip which is decidedly
promising. Sixty men reported to Coach
Finger on the first night of practice, and

clinched the pennant here today, when
it won both ends of a double-header from
Boston. The scores were 8 to 8 and
4 to 0.
Jn the first game New York knocked
Perdue out of the box in three innings.
Mathewson eased up when his team
mates procured him a good lead eight
of Boston's ten hits being made in the
last four innings.
Remarkable pitching of Demaree, a re
cruit from Mobile, featured the second
game. This was Demaree's big league
debut .He shut out Boston with seven
scattered hits, issuing only one pass and
fanning, nine men. In two innings the
visitors opened on him with an extra
base - htl, . but ' could not ' score.
