"Hlckorj'" Johnson's clout over the
light, field boards with Coyle and Tho-
Eiason on base in the first Inning won
maha the second game of yesterday's
Iouble-header by a 3' to 2 score after
hey had dropped the first battle to-
tune of 3 to 2.
Two errors in the sixth inning of the
Ilrst game lost Omaha that battle after
hey had taken a lead of one run. In
Jhat fatal frame Jones drew a walk and
then Roilly sent a hot one tu Niehuff,
ho fielded it clean, but threw wild to
kane. Kane recovered the ball and threw
I J third to cut off Jones und pegged the
all into the stands, while Jones went
fome and Reilly landed on third. He
cored a few sccondsl ater on Morris'
pnly hit of the day.
Sweet, who worked for Des Moines In
file fgirst battle,' let the Rourkes down
frith but four hits, but he passed three
fien and hit two with the ball. In the
(econd inning the Rourkes tied up the
l-oostera' one run lead when Niehof
fras hit by a pitched ball, stole second
.nd scored on Slight's wild peg to get
iim at second. In the fifth Cojie doubled
nd scored , on Thomason's triple.
Omaha played ragged ball in both
imes, but Johnson's homo run in the
lcond battle and Robinson's heady
( ork in the box enabled the home team
h keep in the lad although the visitors
:ayed a grand uphill game.
Johnson a Star.
"Hick" Johnson was the shining light
battles and staved off many
Irs remarkable pegging. Only
l ie man managed to pilfer the keystone
I ck during the two games, and this one
i:ne when a man was on third base.
I .'e bis backstop caught eleven men try
Jig to steal. In the fifth inning of the
I r t battle he pulled off a fine piece of
I ork, shutting off an almost certain
tun. Morris was on second and Slight
.i first. Morris took too big a lead off
I cond and Johnson pegged the ball down
l Justice who got the sleeper.
In the second game Coyle singled In
the first. Thomason landed safe on
tlalrie's error. Johnson slammed the pill
Iver the boards scoring the three runB.
Des Moines made one In the fourth.
