ST. LOUIS. Sept 15,-Joe Wood won
his sixteenth successive game and
equalled the American league record,
made by Walter Johnson of the Washing
ton team this season, when he defeated
Earl Hamilton In the second game of. a
double-teader. The game was called at
the end of the eighth inning because of.
darkness. St. Louis won the first gamo,
score S to 4. '
Hall was hit hard in the first two In
nings of the first game and gave way to
Kacruit Van Dyke, Who pitched Steady
ball, allowing 8t Louis but three
scattered hits. Fast fielding prevented
Boston from over-taking St. Louis' lead.
; Boston won the second - game in the
eighth inning when Wood was passed and
advanced to second on Hooper's single,
fpeaker was passed intentionally, filling
the bases. Hamilton then made a wild
pitch and Wood crossed the plate with
the winning run. A base on balls, a
single and a sacrifcs gava the leaders
their first run. St. Louis scored on a

Fierce Fight Waged
at Foot Ball Game

BELFAST, Ireland, Sept 15 A fierce
fight was waged In - Celtto park foot
ball grounds today In which-sixty) per
sons were severely Injured, two of them
being In a critical condition. Five ot the
injured are suffering from shot wounds.
The fight took jlace at half time in a
game In the league aeries between the
Belfast Celtic team and a' team repre
senting Llnfleld. The Linflelds were
leading by a score of 1 to 0. Some Celtic
supporters unfurled a green and white
flag and started to parade.' Llnfleld par
tisans displayed a union jack. . Immedi
ately stones, bricks and clinkers were
hurtling through the ,, air. The police
ware powerless.- The opposing mobs,
thousands strong, surged toward the
playing field, where a regular battle was
fought in full view of the spectators In
th) grandstand. -:
The report of a revolver caused a lull
and many left tha grounds, but tha stone
throwing was soon resumed both, Inside
and outside the grounds. Mora revolver
shots, were fired, bat poire reinforce
ments arrived and suppressed the mob.
Ambulances were - summoned and
started to remove tha wounded lying on
the field, some of whom were In a shock
ing state, covered with blood. Altogether
twenty-five persona . were taken . to tha
hospitals. ,
The opening of the Commercial league
this evening promises to be one of the big
events of the local bowling season. It
is planned to have several city officials
make short talks before the first gamt
is rolled. Fred Brodegaard has offered
a handsome diamond ring to the bowler
making the highest score, . ,

a field of five, Jimmle L. Fatchen (Fran'

of a 3300 purse in the last three heats ot
a six-heat race. Princess Vasco (William
Beecroft), Eldora, was second. Mayalcon
(C. T. Brady), Marshalltown, and Ban
quet (R. C. Christiansen), Anamosa,
divided third and fourth money. Best

CLEVELAND, O., Sept 15.-Three times
today at North Randall, near here, was
the automobile record for a mile on a
circular dirt track broken. The old rec
ord, holder, Barney Oldfleld, himself
smashed the mark first lowering It from
C3 to 49:93 seconds.
Louis Dlsbrow did not suffer Oldfleld
to , enjoy his hew laurels long, for soon
after Oldfled's performance, Dlsbrow sent
his 'car whirling around the course In
9:35 seconds. Then Oldfleld went out to
beat Dlsbrow's new mark, which he did
by-another wide margin In, 47.91 seconds.
