Home Team.
Omaha and St. Joseph divided yester
day afternoon'! double bill. Harry Hlcka
won a pitchers' battle from Sage by a
t to 1 score In the first and the Josles
i bunched hits on Bills and Beebe and took
the second game, ( to 0.
The first game was by far the better
, of the two. Hlcka was sent In to face
, Sage, who .was recently secured by Hol
land from the Mink league. Sage held
the Ronrkea to five hits, but gave five
peaces, while Hicks let the Missourlana
'down 'with four scattered hits and gave
but one walk.
The Jostes got their only run of the
first game In the second inning on a
walk, a double and a aacriflce fly. An
attempted rally In the eighth inning was
nipped in the bud by a llghtn'ng-llkt
double play. Melnke was on aecond and
, Kelly on first, with one out. when Powell
; eent a grate-cutter down the third base
line. Niehoff made a perfect atop, get
ting Melnke at third, and ahot the ball
to Kane, doubling Powell.
? Schlpke walked In the second and
scored from first on Niehoff s single. In
Ithe fifth, Niehoff doubled to left, went
to third on 8canlon's aacriflce and scored
on Hick'a aacriflce fly to Powell. Bean
;lon . landed safe in the aeventh on a
fielder's choice, went to aecond on Hicks'
single. Justice walked and Coyle walked,
.forcing Scanlon over the pan.
The Seconal Game.
'..The aecond game was all 8t. Joseph's.
Manager Arbogast sent Bills In the bos
;tc make his debut aa a pitcher before
the Omaha fane. The lanky twlrler,
however, waa not In form and In the
third inning the Joeiea bunched two hits
with a walk and a dead ball and Bills
waa relegated to the bench and Beebe
ent to the mound. He waa found hard
,aieo and In the fourth waa relieved by
; rugate, who finished the game in great
ahap. Had he been sent in at the be
ginning of the fame a different tale
( would probably have been the result
i Crutcher was picked by Holland to
work for the Jostes in the aecond and
although he was hit hard by the Rourkex
!he kept, his hits well Mattered and had
.little trouble. In the sixth the Rourkes
'got two hits, but a double spoiled theti
jchance of aeoring. In the eighth two
'hits went tor naught when Crutcher
jt'ghtened and worked himself out of a
had hole. ,.
The Josles scored five in the third.
Powell landed safe on a fielder's choice.
hVatson doubled. Zwllllng singled, scor
ing Powell. Reilly waa hit by a pitched
ibj.ll. filling the bases. WestenU doubled
tq right aeoring WaUcn and Zwllllng.

Clark Has Better of
" Joe Jeanhette in Six
Rounds of Fighting
PITTSBURGH, Sept 2.-Jeff Clark of
Joplln. Mo;, "the fighting ghost," and
Jeannette of Hoboken, N. J., aspirant for
champion laurels, met here In a six
round pout this afternoon. Popular opin
ion gave the better of the fight to Clark.
In several rounds he fought riiga around
Jeannette. Clark weighed 163H and Jean
nette 1SSH pounds. ' , -"V
' The first round waa even; both ex
changed rights and lefts to body. Jean
nette had a shade the better of the sec
ond round, putting hard left to face and
repeating many times aa he hacked Clark
Into a corner. Clark landed several blows
to stomach, but was bleeding at the
mouth when the round ended. Clark had
the third round. He apparently hit at
will. Jeannette, distressed, warned Clark
for hitting at break-awaya and said he
would use the same tactics. Aa they
broke Clark shot three lightning blows
to Jeannette'a body. Joe retaliating with
two lefts to the face. , Clark was quick
and in the mixup Joe landed several lignt ,
blows. -
In the fourth Clark seemed to punch
Jeannette when he pleased, ' Jeannette
landing a few ineffective blows. Jean
nette turned the tables In the fifth round,
although Clark rocked hia head wtth a
hard left to jaw at opening. Joe hit
him frequently and played for the stom
ach, but could not land. ' He sent
smashing Mows to body and face aa the
round ended. ; t
Both were fighting hard when the sixth
round opened. Clark landed left and
right to "Seannette's Jaw. As the clinch
ended Clark repeated and a moment later
went to his knees after "hugging" Jean
nette. Clark continued after Jeannette,
landing hard righta and lefts to the jaw.
Joe attempt.? to land on. kidneysf but
waa blocked. Clark getting a right and
left body and three blow to Jeannette'e
face. He repeated as round ended, with
the crowd yelling the'pralsea of Clark:
