' Pa's family of rangers landed on two
St Josepu pitchers for a total of thir
teen hits and took advantage of the
jjoeies' errors and wou the first game of
i the series without a struggle by a 13 to 4
'score.
I Until the fifth Inning' it was nip and
tuck, with the Rourkea In the lead and
the Joetown braves crawling up. But in
i the fourth Mark Hall did the unexpected
land hammered out a three-bagger, with
'the bases full, and put the game on Ice.
When the Rourkes came to bat in the
fifth the score was 4 to 3 with the
Rourkea on top, but the Josies Were
threatening to overcome this small lead.
(A single and an error, with two out.
brought Scanlon to bat. Jackson thought
he would use his head and passed Scan-
lion and took a chance on Hall. Pitchers,
las a rule, are "meat" when at bat, but
iHall was not inclined to give up without
a struggle, and after getting two strikes
called on him picked a nice one and poked
lit to the right center fence.
Kaay After Fourth.
After the fourth it was like taking
'candy from a baby and the Rourkea had
no trouble keeping the lead and increas
ing it. Jackson was jerked at the end of
the fifth and Bell sent in to stem the
tide. He did this fairly well until the
(eighth, when he soared and the Omahogs
(rung up four more tallies,
i St Joseph put up a poor exhibition of
the game and maaruerror after error,
the most of which were costly. At times,
ihowever, they exhibited flasnes of their
iold-tlme form, but as a rule they went
down to defeat without much of a battle.
In the seventh Inning Reilly , the St Jo
seph, second baseman,' robbed JJIehofT of
a hit by bounding at least four feet from
the ground to pull down a line drive.
The Omaha team played great, ball all
the way through and sure aid give the
lans a great exhibition of a pennant
twinning ball team. Only one error was
made by the Rourkes and this was ex
cusable. ' Omaha scored In the first inning. Jus
tice opened with a single to left Coyle
Sanded safe on an error. .Thomason sac
rificed and Johnson drew a walk, filling
the bases. Kane was hit by a pitched
.'ball and Justice forced over for the first
