VISITORS STAET OUT WELL They Manage to Get Tfcree-Rnn Lead, bat the Locals Tarn la and Pile Up Marc Thaa Enough to Win. Omaha slaughtered three Wichita pltehem for a total of twenty hits yes terday and won the hut game of the series by a score of 13 to 1. It was the worst slaughter seen at the local ysrd this year. Wichita started out like a sure winner and managed to get a three-run lead on the Rourkes before th home team started. But when they did start they kept it up for four solid Innings, In which time they made all their runs. In the third they tied the Wichita score with three runs. In the fifth theree more tallies were hammered In. In the8ixth the same number sgaln ambled over and In the seventh four runs capped the climax and then the Omahogs stopped. , Hall started the work tor the Rourkes from the mound, but was hauled out of the box In the third Inning, after the Jobbers had hammered out a triple, a double and he had passed two men. Jack Fugate was sent to the rescue and held the vllators helpless fo rthe remainder of the game, while the Rourkes went wild. Omaha's runs, however, were not the result of clean Mts, aft the .Wnra played a poor game and made an 'error almost every time one of the players touched the ball. But at that Omaha made enough earned runs to win the game. When Fugate went o nthe mound the score was three against him, but he "pulled out a winner. ' For a while It looked as It Wichita would get a few runs In the seventh in ning, but a snappy double play choked them. Clemmons was on second and Mee on third, when Davis sent one to rugate who threw to Nlehoff, and Nlehoff re layed it to Justice. Craig walked in the first, took second on an Infield hit. went to third when Koerner was forced at second and scored on a passed ball. In the second Clem mons tripled and scored on Mee's double, who in turn scored on Craig's single. The Rourkes tied It In the fourth. Nle hoff doubled and scored on Bills' double. Bills scored when Craig dropped Justice's long fly. Coyla singled, scoring Justice. Johnson singled in th eflfth. Kane beat out a bunt Schlpke landed safe on Com mons' error and Johnson scored. Kane scored on Nlehoff 's single and Schlpke was caught at th plate. Bills singled to deep right, scoring Nlehoff. Coyle doubled In the sixth and scored on Thomason's double. Cubs Have Hard Task to Outfinish Giants CHICAGO, ; Aug. 23.-Wlth its victory over Boston today,; while New York won and lost a game at Pittsburgh, Chicago gained half a game on the Giants In the race for the National league pennant and now only four game separate the two clubs, . ' , Figures on the thrilling race show that Chicago will have a difficult task to de feat the Giants for the flag, as New York is not only In the lead, but has more games to play. The Cubs have forty -one games left on the schedule. This includes one . series with each club of the league and a second series with Boston, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis. The Giants have forty-three games left to play, Including one series with each club in the league and a second series with Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Brooklyn, Boston and Philadelphia. The Cubs have four postponed games to play, while the Giants have seven. If New York should lose a total of fifty games, or seventeen more, Chicago would have, to win thirty nine and Bae only eleven of Its remain ing games to get "the pennant.
