Tha anqual Venetian carnival at the Red and Gun club Tuesday evening will be the big event of the season for the members of this lakeside club. Special attention. LUTHERANS OF NEBRASKA AND MISSOURI AT SEWARD The annual convention of the Nebraska and Wyoming -district ! of the Lutheran Missouri synod will take place at Seward, Neb., from August 14 to 20, when 325 pas tors, teachers and lay delegates, repre senting 300 congregations In Nebraska and Wyoming, will meet In Lutheran St. John's church, ,of which Rev. H. C. Becker, president of this district, is pastor. The sessions open with divine service 'on Wednesday, in which Rev. J. Hllgendorf of Cheyenne, Wyo., will preach. , The morning sessions will be given over to reading and discussion of a doc trinal paper, as the basis of all true church work must be the ."unity of the spirit In the bond of peace and doctrine." In the cJatly afternoon sessions the busi ness matters will be taken up, in which, also, the lay delegates have voice' and vote. The congregations possess not merely advisory but also executive .power, and vote according to the instructions from their respective churches. Together with the growth of central and western Nebraska the number of con gregations has steadily increased, the prosperity of the country substantially and intellectually and the growth of the churches being to a large extent depend ent upon each other. Other topics of Interest are: Church extension fund; building of a musical conservatory for the normal seminary at Seward, the necessary money being already pledged; ministerial relief fund; Children's Home Finding society ' at Fremont.;;-financial support of the 'new normal seminary of Mlssiurl synod at Fqrest, Chicago; the home mission work In Brazil, colored, Indian and foreign missions In Europe and India. The other twenty -one districts of the general body in North and South America have already convened In their states. The Joint body shows an Increase of 14,657 communicant members In the last year. The increase of all Lutheran bodies in the United States during the last year Is 46,41). communicant members. MISSOURI VALLEY MEDICS MEET AT COUNCIL BLUFFS The twenty-fifth annual meeting of the Medical Society of the Missouri Valley will be held in Council Bluffs on September 5 and 6, at which time It Is expected several nonresident charter members of the society will be Present. The presidents of the state societies have also been Invited. On Saturday following the meeting a series of clinics will be given in Omaha, beginning at S o'clock in the morning. The headquarters for the convention will be the Grand hotel at Council Bluffs.
