ROURKES FAIL TO HIT BALL
Inability to Connect loses Game to
Denver, Five to One.

to Get Himself In Some-
thine of a Hole.
By .MASON .YOI I.D.
DENVER, July 28.-(Speclal Telegram.)'
Inability to hit the ball at opportune
times lost for Omaha the last game of
the series here today by 5 to 1. The
Rourkes managed to get men on bases
in almost every inning, but the hit to
send the runs across naver came after
tile second.
Younr Leonard was the flrtzzlv fllnarr
today and worked himself out of holes
with apparent ease. Benton Beebe, Pa
Rourkt's new twirler, was sent In at the
beginning, but was unsteady. In the
sixth Inning the Cubs landed on him for
four 'hits, Including two doubles, for
three runs. With two men down he was
benched and Manager Arbogast sent
Hicks in to finish.
Denver am not win tne game witnout
a, hard battle. The Omaha .boys were
fighting at all times and playing great
ball. The support they gave their pitch
ers was errorless.
The Rourkes got their only run In the
second frame. Johnson sent one too hard
for Kenworthy to handle. Schlpke sent
him to second with a single to left and
h scored on Niehoff's single to left.
the Grizzlies tied It up In their half of
the second on two singles and a, sacrifice.
In the third Inning Beebe worked himself
lino a bad hole, but managed to wiggle
out of it. A single and two walks after
two had died filled the bases. Beebe
then sent some twisters to Lindsay and
'hi fanned.
in the sixth Denver made three runs.
Block singled. Wetdensaul sacrificed.
Kenworthy sent Block over with a single.
He stole second and scored on Casstdy's
double, who In turn scored on BeaU's
clout. ' .
- Schlpke Spears Ball.
Bchlpke robbed the Cubs, of a run in
the eighth inning with a pretty stop and
peg., Cassldy was on third, with one
dewn, when QulUln sent a liner past
Hicks. Schlpke made a grab for the ball
with one hand and with a marvelous
heave got Cassldy sliding Into the plate.
A lightning-like double play In the ninth
inning robbed the Rourkes of any chance
o victory when they started a batting
rally. With one down, Schlpke got to
first on an Infield hit Kiehoff came
through with a single, sending the Skipper
to third. Scanlon sent a hot one to Ken
worthy Just In front of second. "Kenny"
touched second and sent the ball to first,
ending the game.

SEWARD. Neb.. July 26.-(SDecIai Tele
gram.) Seward lost to Fremont today
largely for the reason that they had a
badly arranged team. A Ditcher played
in the field and a fielder pitched. The
regular pitchers were not in form be
cause they had been working. to. often.
Meade played at first in Zlnk's stead, and
the whole appearance was a patched up
affair. Seward will be reinforced soon
by a new pitcher and inflelder, which
win strengthen their team materially.
