game featured by the pitching of Farley,
who allowed but three scattered singles
and never passed a man. Both sides

Yesterday Bancroft defeated the Wis
ner team by the score of 5 to 4 in an ex
citing game. McKlnnls, for Bancroft,
pitched a fine game, allowing but five
hits, none of which were made after the
fourth inning. Besides this he won his
own game with a two-bagger with two

Favorite Winded
and Loses the Race
FREMONT, Neb., July 23.-(Special Tel
egram.) Owing to the hot winds the at
tendance att he races was not very large
this afternoon. The track was in good
shape and good time was made.
In the first heat of the 2:22 pace,
Shriner, driver of Danny Vincent, was
thrown out and had hfs right hand split
and several bones broken. Sir Lain, the
favorite, won the first heat, but came
In winded and did not cut much figure
in . the other heats. First money was
divided 1 nthls race between Young Pride
and Idol.
Prince Waverly was the favorite in the
2:29 trot and won easily.

made here tonight of the release of Jack
Fournler by Manager Callahan of the
Chicago American league base ball team.
Fournler, who was secured by Chicago
from the Boston club on a waiver, has
been released to the Montreal club of the
International league.
Yankees Buy Barry.
NEW YORK, July 22.-The New York
American league club today purchased
First Baseman Malcolm Barry from the
Brockton club of the New England
league. Barry will report, at the end of
the New England league season.

Ray Farrell furnished the. feature of the
opening of the Rod and Gun club tennis
tournament yesterday afternoon by play
ing his way Into the semi-finals after
winning three hard fought matches In
the preliminary, first and second rounds,
respectively. Farrell put Al Hansen, V.
McCormick and Kenneth Hatch all out
of the running.
Farrell started his first match with Al
Hansen and after a brilliant spurt in
the second set, took the first honors.

In and trounced D. McCormick In the
first round, 6-0, S-L and then finished
up by defeating Kenneth Hatch In the
second ' round. Farrell used a speedy
