G 10 BUILD MOTOR SPEEDWAY , Association Formed to Take Oyer Jersey Meadows Acres. 0BOUND TO-BE BEOKEN SOON toav-Dlrtaac Motorcycle Racea nd I ' Other EthU Will Be Seea ' ' . at tke Bis; Brick ; - 'J Oval. , NEW YORK, July 13.-ForaM an nouncement of the plan for the conjunc tion of the metropolitan motor speedway were made by the Metropolitan Motor Speedway association. ' . ? ' . The association has been formed to ; take over 300 acres on the Jersey meadows, near Newark, for the purpose Of constructing a' rnotordome and stadium.; .Ground will be -broken,' this month and the speedway is to be com pleted within a yeaf. On July i 1913, - the .opening event will ba staged an In ' ternational 500-mile race. ' ' i . The fact that A. R. Partington, who ' baa been actively connected with the Long Island Motor parkway and the Motor Cups Holding company, is vice " president and general manager of the 'Metropolitan Motor speedway, and also ' the fact that Fred J. Wagner, the Amer iican Automobile association starter and 'race promoter, is already heavily Inter ested financially and as a director la .'sufficient guarantee to any one familiar With the sport that the project will be carried through successfully. H. E. Hoyt, Vlce president of the American Potash :Jompany, U president Jof the speedway; If heodore F. Keer, vice president of the Newark Trust companyv, Is treasurer, and ty. H, Oeborn, secretary. The latter is Mlso secretary- of the Commercial Main- tenance and Motor company. IS It Is not merely Intended to make the "new speedway 'stag for automobile j speed contest.- Ixng distance motor tcycle racea and other race will be held ftt the brick oval-while the infield will be Yftuable for aviation meets, bas ball. foot ball field and track athletics, clr cuses, wild west shows, eta The en tire plant will be surrounded by a high fence.. The speedway itself la to be sixty feet wide, excepting on the turns, which are to be seventy-five feet In width and scientifically banked with saucer curves. Grandstands with box and promenade seats will be erected the entire lengths of the straightaway stretches. The pro posed capacity of these stands is 200,000. Parking space to accommodate 10,000 cars wlU be divided In the Infield, which will be accessible by means of three double track tunnels, forming the entrance and exit of cars and pedestrians. Garages, repair and machine shops, pits, a hotel and club bouse, a restaurant and other buildings will b ''erected. For night events, such as twenty-four-hour races, a number of which are to be run, the two miles of speedway will be illuminated In such a way as to provide plenty of light without blinding the drivers. The races at the Indianapolis speedway drew crowds of more than 80,000 to each of the MO-mlle- racea held there. , Indian apolis has to draw on a population of only about 1,000,000, whereas within a radius of twenty miles of the Metropoli tan motor speedway th total population la 7,000,000. Furthermore, the Metropoli tan district, during the summer month baa a pleasure seeking, floating popula tion of at least 1,000,000. In view of this a number of experts say that the pro posed grandstand capacity of 200,000 will be Inadequate and advise building the stand larger. . Has Owied Elevea Cars. If any motorist holds a record of own ing the greatest number of cars of one make, It will doubtless be shattered by the record of Maurice Lowensteln of Mobile, Ala.' Mr. Lewensteln has owned eleven Gtoddard-Dayton cars of various types and he says the pride of ownership has reached its height with him, for he has just bought hi twelfth Stoddard- Payton, a six-cylinder Silent Knight Compartment roadster.
